The time has come to sell my NS-2A. I don't use it as much now, and I've also upgraded the pickups, the tuners and the bridge. I'm including the original bridge, tuners and pickups in this sale. I also added Creative Cuts MOP 'Spector' oval inlays. These are easily removed without leaving anything residue behind.
The bass is in good to very good condition. It's not a museum piece, but it's not in bad shape either. There is swirling on the back, with scuff marks that do not go deeper than the finish. I kept it nice and polished, and wiped it down after each practice or performance. I am the second owner. It is likely a maple body with maple neck and rosewood fretboard.
The bridge was replaced with a Spector Legend gold bridge. The pickups were replaced with EMG HZ P/J passive - wired into the the 9V Hazlab clone preamp. This bass is from the early Kramer years when the NS-2As were being made in Japan, later Kramer moved production to Korea. Don't hold me to this though, I can't say with absolutely certainty whether this was made in Japan or Korea. The only way I can is that later Korean imports had the controls on the front oriented differently. The later Korean models had the serial number on the back of the headstock. This one has the serial number etched on the cover of the control cavity.
The bass has a great tone. For me, it's a bit quiet for an active bass - but then, I'm used to the TonePump in my Rebops. Those preamps are LOUD. The neck is nice and straight - it's really, really easy to play - finger style, pick or slap - the fretboard is solid and helps produce a bright, modern growl. The fret wear is probably about 20-30%. It won't need a fret dressing for a little while. The action is low. I tend to pluck hard, so it buzzes below the 5th fret for me - but if you have a lighter touch, you won't notice a thing.
I just had it set up about two weeks ago with my local tech in San Diego, so this baby is ready to go. I'm going to miss her, but I need to sell to fund another purchase.
I'm selling with the upgrades installed (you can remove them, or swap them out, since I'm including all the original parts with this sale). On my bathroom scale this is a little over 8.5 lbs.
Given the condition, the upgrades and original parts, let's start this at $500 shipped CONUS, insured with a gig bag, well packed. She needs a new home. It could be yours!
