FS: Stingray 5 1990

Up for sale is a late 1990 Stingray 5 string. I am not an expert on Stingrays. My info comes from musicmanbass.org. It appears to be a July/August 1990 build. I would rate the condition a 6 out of 10. Has some marks on the body that I tried to show in the pics. Worst one is up toward the top horn. I only have the camera from my Blackberry.

I just had the bass set up w/ D'Addario EXL170-5. This bass has the Musicman logo on the tuning keys and neck plate. It must have the older pickup because it sounds better than the newer Stingrays IMO. Also, the G string does not slide off the neck. I personally have that problem with the newer SR5's. Although some people don't.

I believe everything is original. The only 2 things I think may not be original is the pickguard and the case. Don't know if they came with Pearloid pickguards back then. The case is beat up & one latch is missing but I don't know if they came in this type of case. Any Stingray experts please let me know your thoughts.

You can see that it has been played by the dings and marks. The neck is great and the frets have plenty of life left in 'em.

Not sure what the color is called. I will call it a Teal Burst. Has a slight yellow hue probably from age or smokey clubs or original owner was a smoker.

Price $1300 including shipping to the lower 48 states.

Only trades: +/- cash

Beatiful StingRay! I think that colour was originally a Blue Burst that yellowed a lot over the years. Very cool! Also, judging from the tarnish on the pole pieces, I'd think that they are made from alnico which is different from the later used ceramic indeed.

I've played this bass and it sounds killer. And yes, the pickup does have Alnico magnets. That is what EBMM was using at that time. They did not change to ceramic until some time later. IMO, the Alnicos have much more character. Bump for a great bass and seller

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies. I agree with the blue burst. And I wish I had Rodney's camera to take much better picks. Even with the scratches it is a great looking bass.

had a 1993 teal green, a superb bass. These older sr5's are the real deal. Somebody is going to be a happy camper

If Rodney was not in California this week. You could bring the SR5 by the house and we could take some new pictures. I can attest though...the bass looks and sounds great

Sean,
I will get the weight when Rodney gets back in town.
This white pickup cover is tarnished around the poles. I don't know if it's from the magnets or what. Pickup is not rusty.
Steve

I think I met you at ABG that day. You were in town on business. The bass had not even been put up on the website yet.
