My first exposure to a Fender Jazz which lead directly to selling off 2 Gibson SGs and buying an MIJ Geddy Lee! Time to pass this along.
I am virtually certain this particular model is the predecessor of the current "Custom Handmade" "Vintage Series" SX Ursa 2 with the great bound and blocked neck, except for two significant differences.
1) This earlier version has the much more desirable old style traditional Fender fish hook head that is no longer available.
2) The stock pickups of unknown origin have been replaced with Seymour Duncan Designs. Nearly silent, some good growl and a real low end that was missing. Does that make this bass a $1000 jazz? No, but for a first bass, backup, practice, outdoor or bar room player it is a great value
Everything appears to be original (except the pickups). Rondo gets $180 for this model plus about $18 to ship, of course that is with the newer neck. I will throw in a Fender gig bag and nearly new basic Ernie Ball strap - all for $
200 $180 / OBO
, shipped insured east of the Mississippi. Add $15 beyond that.
The entire bass is very clean, with minimal scuffs or scratches. The are two areas on the body where some finish had been nicked, one by the neck pocket and the other by the bridge pickup pocket, but both have been touched up. The neck might have one or two "rashes" around the head, but impossible to photo. The back and fretboard are beautiful and smooth. The frets show little if any wear. All in all, a very good to excellent example of SX ability to craft well finished, competitively priced instrument. Appears to be just under 10 pounds - lighter than the Geddy!
These are older pics, nicks now touched up. More pics to follow.
