FS: SX MM/J with great upgrades and very nice gig bag!

This is an SX brand Jazz bass guitar with one J-bass pickup and one Music Man style pickup. The body is made of American Swamp Ash with a beautiful sunburst finish and nice figuring in the wood. The neck is maple with a black blocked and bound fretboard. The blocks are real inlays - not painted or decals. The fretboard has some nice quilting to the maple as well.

I have copper foil shielded the control and pickup cavities (which you can see a bit in one of the pictures). I installed a switch between the tone control and the output jack that allows you to select the front coil, both coils, or the rear coil of the MM type pickup for a variety of tones. I also replaced the volume control with a push/pull pot which allows you to choose between parallel (normal Jazz) and series (thicker, P-bass like) wiring between the two pickups. I also fully leveled the frets and filed the fret ends smooth, so this neck is a joy to play! The nut is about 1.6" so very close to Fender J-bass dimensions, but I like this neck much better than any Made in Mexico Jazz I've ever played! The stock tuners have been replaced with nice tuners from a G&L L2000 Tribute bass. The bridge is a nice high-mass version with brass saddles. I have the action set low and the intonation is spot on. It's currently strung with Sadowsky flats which sound great on this bass. I'd say it's in 9 out of 10 condition.

This comes with a very nice padded G&L gig bag which I've been tempted to keep for the bass I'm buying next (but it comes with a hard shell case). The little rosewood thumbrest you see in the body pic was just applied with double-stick tape and came off cleanly. Sorry about the fingerprints on the control panel and pickguard - I'll make sure to wipe it down well before you buy it (and you know you want to buy this bass guitar!).

Here are some pics:

$230 shipped CONUS. The bag sells for $75 new, so this is quite a deal. This bass was about $200 shipped to my door before any of the upgrades. If you're looking to buy an SX or just want a great backup bass then this is the one to buy.

Dont the specs at rondo say alder? Are you sure its ash? The back looks ash but the front seems more alder looking.

The specs are wrong. The pickguard had a sticker on it that said "American Swamp Ash". The grain is too defined for alder and it sounds like ash.

If you've ever wanted to take a chance on owning an SX this would be the one. I've made it into a real player - I'm just headed in a different bass direction.
