Hey Y'all,
I had this up, pulled it down and now I'm putting it back up. If you know me, you know that's par for the course (waffling is SOP for me). Here's what I've got:
G&L SB-2
- fretted maple board
- 1.5" nut width, satin neck
- 8.1lbs
- black body
- maple board
- crinkle black pickguard, neck plate and bridge
- a 93 according to the person I bought it from
- stacked P-vol/tone and J-vol controls (essentially vol/vol/tone)
- plenty of wear, darkening/wear on the maple, it's been played
- one tuner post is straight, the other are tapered aluminum (I've had G&Ls with both types, just never both on the same bass before)
- hard case
- $675 *** SOLD ***
This is the slickest playing G&L I've had in a long time. I'm tempted to keep it just because of the feel but I have a modified Trib SB2 (neck humbucker added) that's close in playability, has the extra tones from the added pickup and unfortunately is a bit heavier that is going to fill my "SB2 slot" so this one is on the block.
G&L SB-2 fretless
- unlined ebony board
- 1.5" nut width, satin neck
- 8.0lbs
- Lake placid blue
- 3-bolt neck
- stacked master vol/J-pickup vol and tone
- some wear (small dings, dents, etc.) but looks good and plays very sweetly
- hard case
- $725 *** SOLD ***
A very nice fretless SB2. The lack of frets gets rid of a lot of the "clank" that an SB2 can produce (one of the reason I always put tone controls on my SB2s) and it can snarl/mwah nicely. I just don't play it very often and would rather have greater fretted variety available to me than a fretless right now.
Trades:
G&L L-2000: 1.5" nut width, 8.5lbs or less, satin neck
G&L JB-2: 1.5" nut width, 8.5lbs or less, satin neck
Trib JB2: natural/rw, 8.5lbs or less
Reverend Rumblefish 4-string
maybe a Sterling HH or SLO Stingray HH
In general I'm a G&L fan and they need to have a 1.5" nut width, weight 8.5lbs or less and have a satin neck. I don't go for ASAT body shapes and have an SB2 and an L1K so I'm really looking for different models. I also am not a fan of the L1500/Climax but if you have something different - El Toro, Lynx, SB1, 1st gen SB2, . . . that meets my criteria run it by me.
