FS/T: 2 US G&L SB-2s (fretted & fretless)

Hey Y'all,

I'm in a post-holiday downsizing kind of mood and have a couple of nice G&Ls to put on the block. The SB2 is my favorite G&L model - sonically think about a P-bass, then up the output to where it competes with active basses, add more lows, more highs, more growl and more clarity. And if you find the edginess too much then drop on some flats and dial back the volume. I love these things and that's why I've ended up with four of 'em when two will really take care of me. What I've got:

US G&L SB-2 fretted:
  • sunburst over what looks like alder
  • rosewood board on 1.5" nut width neck
  • nice and light at 8.75 lbs
  • molded case
It's in pretty nice condition with the cigarette burn on the headstock being the only significant flaw. Control-wise it has a tone cut (like on a Sheehan bass - a .01mf cap to ground on a switch) on top of the standard vol/vol controls.

Since it came to me in a series of trades I probably have way more in it than it's worth. Looking at the current market I could live with $675 out of it.

$675 shipped CONUS, paypal OK

US G&L SB-2 fretless:
  • natural finish over ash
  • ebony b[oard on 1.5" nut width neck
  • tort pickguard
  • TIJF strings on it
  • decent weight at 9lbs 0.5oz
  • molded case
This is a very pretty bass with only one flaw to mention - a finish crack where the bottom horn & neck pocket meet. I was assured it's finish-only by the TBer I got the bass from and it's been rock solid for me. Controls are stacked master-vol/j-pickup vol & tone. I do have to replace the stacked pot before I ship since I had a batch of bad ones that I got (I need to replace one on one of my SB2s I'm keeping as well) so if you'd rather have pllain stacked volumes (P/J vols) or even back to just vol/vol with no tone let me know and I can accomodate.

This is the one I hesitate the most on letting go as it's nice, it's fretless, and every once in a while I like the whole slippey-slidey thing. But I don't play it very often (October was the last time I used it) so I can let it go. I've got $725 into it and that's what I'd like to get out.

$725 shipped CONUS, paypal OK

US G&L SB-2 fretted:
  • beautiful dark blueburst finish
  • gorgeous birdseye maple neck/board 1.5" nut width neck
  • chrome pickup cover & black thumbrest
  • decent weight at 9lbs 2oz
  • molded case

This is an absolutely gorgeous SB2, very pretty. The controls have been modified to a stacked master-vol/j-pickup-vol and tone. I can move a wire and make that just straight stacked vol & tone if you want before shipping. It's in very good shape and is currently my #1 US G&L. But I have another mod project or two in mind and it would be sad to cut into this beauty. So I'm thinking I may need to send it off and get a Trib or 2 to hack on for now.

$725 shipped CONUS, paypal OK

I don't really need any trades but things that would probably make me think include:

- Natural/rw Trib JB2
- US SB-1 w/1.5" nut width
- 1st gen SB2 or Lynx w/1.5" nut width
- maybe the right deal on a US JB2
- maybe a Fender Kingman or Epi Viola

I played it last night and boy does it sing. I wish I were better on fretless or had more time to become so.

Being in a clean-out kind of mood I added yet another SB2 to the forsale pile. I'm looking at my basses and the router and having sawdust thoughts, which would maybe go better with a less gorgeous bass . . .

Bump for the guy with the best G&L's.

Love the blueburst / maple / black PG. I have the same color combo on one of mine.

Blueburst *** SOLD ***

I'm still wavering on the fretless but won't pull it down yet, I've only pulled it down off the wall since October to check it out before I listed it so it's not getting much use . . .
