FS/T: G&L Climax bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Y'all,

The Climax is the predecessor to the current L-1500. A single MFD humbucker in the "Stingray sweetspot". Coil selector (I think it's series/parallel on this one although many are series/single coil), active/passive switch and vol/treble/bass knobs (eq is cut only and functional in both active and passive modes). The Climax neck is a #6 - G&L's take on a vintage J neck: 1.5" wide at the nut with a 7.5" fretboard radius. This particular bass is very, very light (8.2 lbs by my scale). The finish is sparkle black metallic (like a metallic black/charcoal gray). It came to me in a generic gig bag and will ship in the same.

This bass has some wear - everything is functional and works well but it's not pristine. I personally find the active mode to be useless. I only play it in passive mode and that goes for every Climax I've ever had (4 or 5 over the years).

The only reason I'm willing to let it go is that I just don't the tone of it as much as the other G&Ls I have (L2K, SB2, JB2).

$550 shipped in the contiguous 48, paypal is good

Things I might trade for:

G&L L2K
G&L JB2
esoteric G&Ls: 1st gen SB1/2, L1K, Lynx, El Toro, Interceptor

G&Ls have to have 1.5" nut width, satin neck and be light - preferably under 8.5lbs (under 9 is a must)

Reverend Rumblefish 4
Fender HMT bass
Steinberger Spirit XZ-2/XZ-2db

NS Wav 4
Musicman Sterling HS or HH

Forgot the Wav 4 in the trades

S/N B026545 - appears to indicate 94-96 vintage (the Climax bass was only produced from 92-96)

had one and it's a great bass, can sound like a P and a Ray as well as a few other nice tones of it's own.

if only it had a Precision style neck I'd still own it.
