Made-in-USA in 1994 Gibson Tobias Growler 4 bass.
SOLD .
Bass body is swamp ash with an aged natural finish, much darker than most Growlers I have seen that are not as vintage. Neck is maple with a purple heart skunk stripe. Not sure of fingerboard wood, but does not look like rosewood to me, probably wenge.
Bass has been played for sure, and has some road wear, but none of the "damage" kind that affects playability. I think of it more like "character/mojo" than wear, but you make your own choices on that.
Original Bartolini active single MM pickup with 2-coil switches, bass/treble stacked pots, coil pan, and master volume. One of the switches has lost its locking nut, so it kind of floats in its hole. When I acquired it was missing some knobs, so I added Hipshot o-ring knobs, which I think look cool.
Other features: double truss rod, original bridge, schaller lock pins installed (I can supply old pins if requested). Currently strung with D'addario Prosteels. The bass was recently set-up professionally so action and intonation are just right by my book.
Very lightweight bass, 7.8 lbs. on my bathroom scale.
It plays fantastic, has a very comfortable neck, lightweight body, and has some very useable tones. There really is a growl, and it's most pronounced when the 3-way switch is at the up/treble boost position. Selling to raise funds for an EBMM or Lakland Skyline.
