Here's something you don't see every day. These Japanese-made Electra basses were only made from about 1977 to 1982. They are unique not only in appearance, but in function. The back of the body has two slots for MPC (modular powered circuit) effects modules. These modules were used for both Electra MPC basses and guitars. More about the MPC modules and a full list of all 12 that were made here:
Electra MPC Modules Note: I do
not have any MPC modules for this bass. They are pretty hard to come by, but pop up on EBay occasionally. They range in price from $75-$150 each, which is a fairly hefty price, but like I said, they're rare and probably fairly collectible - at least for Electra owners.
Despite the lack of modules, this is an awesome bass. It has
neck-through construction which I love. The Mexican abalone bowtie inlays against the rosewood fretboard are simply awesome. Plus, the fretboard has a really cool tortoise-shell binding! The bass has two pickups - a standard P-bass style pickup, and then a neck pickup with a metal cover - I'm not sure exactly what it is, but the rotating wheel on the upper horn provides a variety of different tones. The bass has is passive and only requires a battery if you are using MPC modules - which it can power with one 9V (even though there are two battery slots - the second is just a spare.) 34" scale.
A few things to note:
This was originally a lefty - but Electra did not make a dedicated lefty model, so as far as I know, only the nut was different. Speaking of - the original brass nut is gone and was replaced by a bone nut. The chrome tuners are a little pitted and have some wear/spotting but not really any rust. The bridge is shiny. The pickguard is a replacement but looks just like the original.
Body/neck are mahogany I believe. The are scratches, some dings along the edge, nothing terrible. I estimate this bass to be from the late 70s but the serial # is worn off. Dunlop straplocks already installed and I will include a strap. No case - but I'll put it in a too-small gig bag for shipping purposes.
$585 shipped lower 48. This bad boy is a bit heavy but it's also awesome. I'm very hesitant to sell this but I really want a Modulus or Status bass.
I prefer to be
emailed as I can't check PMs very easily at work.
PICS!
