FS: USA Washburn XB-925 fretless/zebrawood/Barts, **price reduced to $850 o.b.o.**

Hey folks,

I have a Washburn XB-925 fretless bass, made in Chicago, USA. I bought it from an authorized Washburn dealer, Hennessey Music, in Columbia, MO on 10-9-2004 for a little over $1600 new. I also bought a Washburn aluminum flight case, which cost me an extra $280, which I'll throw in with the bass.

This bass is FRETLESS FIVE-STRING, with a zebrawood top (with matching headstock) and stock Bartolini pickups with a 3-band active EQ and pickup selector switch. It also has a Wilkenson bridge, a maple neck with rosewood fretboard, and a swamp-ash body. It is in excellent condition, except for the fretboard, which is in good condition. For some reason, Washburn strings these from the factory with roundwound strings, and there are a few *very* minor & easily buffed-out, barely-visible surface scratches on the rosewood fretboard from the few people who played it in the shop before I bought it. I put half-rounds on it right away and these swirls in the fretboard do not affect tone or playability at all. The bass is otherwise stock, except for a set of Schaller straplocks I installed. Unfortunately, I do not have the original buttons.

All the original case candy, including the blank warranty card and allen wrenches, is included.

I haven't played it much, I'd say less than 50 hours total. I bought it with the idea that I'd like to learn fretless, and I might as well buy a decent one, if I'm serious about it. Well, it turns out, I should stick to fretted!

For some reason, high-end Washburns have low resale value. I think it is because Washburn is generally regarded as a budget-niche company, but their USA stuff is very good and not at all like their imported cheapies.

I have accepted that I will not get anywhere near the $1600+ I have in this bass, so I'm asking $900, and I'm open to offers - that's $700 less than I paid for what is almost an un-used instrument, not counting the $280 flight case!

Thanks very much for checking out my post.

Best,

Dave Muscato

or just PM me here!

PRICE REDUCED *AGAIN* to $850!!

Please note: I had a thread about this bass already, offering to trade for an MTD Z6. After 3 months with no trade offers, I went ahead and bought a Z6 on eBay. Since my old thread is now 3 months old, I can't edit the topic heading to say "FS" instead of "FT," so I started a new thread. You can check out the old thread here:

Trade? My USA Washburn XB-925 fretless/zebrawood/Barts for your 6-string fretted!

More pics!

Case candy, it's hard to see in the photo because the inside of the case is black, but the two hex keys (Allen wrenches) for the saddles & truss rod are included, as well.

Washburn aluminum flight case, cost me $280, included FREE with the bass!

Close-up of the Wilkenson (stock) adjustable bridge, Bartolini pickups, and 3-band EQ... mmm... look at that sexy zebrawood top!

Make me offers, please!

Just for kicks...

What is the weight of the bass?

String spacing at the bridge? Scale length?

Is it an oil finish?

How's the B-string?

What's the neck profile?

I'm just kickin' the tires...I own too many basses....but this instrument looks very nice, and I REALLY like the gunmetal/burnished hardware.

And I'm a sucker for a fretless bass.

Jay

I found out some more info about the preamp & pickups. According to Bartolini.net, here is the preamp & pickups used in the XB-9xx basses:

Bump for a sweet bass. I played one of these a few years ago and loved the tone.

Dave...

Bump for you...don't forget that I'm still interested in the specs once you get home.

I've tried to answer my own questions on the Washburn web site, but no luck....patiently waiting in any case -

Jay

Jay, got your PM, sorry, I have been so busy lately... I don't know the exact weight, and I don't have a scale here, but it's slightly heavier than my MTD Artist 5 and waaaay lighter than my Line6 Variax 705 (10 lbs, 8 oz).

17.5 mm spacing @ the saddles IIRC (don't have a ruler that precise handy, sorry) (center-to-center), 34" scale, oil finish for both the body & neck, 14" fingerboard radius, neck profile is a pretty nice oval, not super thin like my MTDs, but fast, and it has a fairly narrow nut compared to my Artist 5, but not uncomfortable so. B string is solid and strong; I wouldn't say that it has thump (half-rounds on it now), but it's very full-sounding and has "oomph." You could get more thump with flats I'm sure, and the preamp is very versatile. Hope this helps.

I have a price & terms negotiated with a buyer, and a sale pending receipt of payment, just FYI. Thanks for looking.

Regards,
