| bigdbass | 03-17-2013 06:37 PM | FS: Vintage 1981 Eko BA-4NPE fretless acoustic bass guitar This Eko fretless acoustic bass guitar was made in Italy on 22 October 1981 and is in pretty impressive condition considering its age. I've had it 16+ years. I've found information that confirms that the serial number reflects the exact date of production based on the serial number. So this bass is 32 years old.
The Eko factory closed in 1987, so here's your chance to own a piece of bass history.
This particular bass is model BA-4NPE. "BA" for "Basso Acustico", "-4" for 4-string. "N" for "no frets", "PE" for piezeoelectric pick-up.
The nut width is approximately 1.8" and scale is 34".
The top and back of the body is bound in white. There are some various scratches and dings commensurate with age. On the top of the body there is a crack on each side of the fingerboard. (Visible in pics below.) As far as I can tell they are just on the surface; I can't feel them on the inside.
The fingerboard is unlined and while there are some marks and scratches, it has no major wear or grooves from strings. There are side markers at the "fret" positions. It's strung with tapewound strings.
It has the piezoelectric pick-up option from the factory that is fully operational and sounds great.
Unplugged, the volume is sufficient for jamming with an acoustic guitar or hand percussion. With a small amp it's perfect for an acoustic-y gig at a coffee house, restaurant, or wine bar. It sounds great through my Phil Jones Bass Cub.
The tone (unplugged or amplified) on this old thing is fantastic. It has a great fretless "mwah" sound, and can emulate an upright pretty darn well.
Included is a like new Gator gig bag that fits perfectly.
