FS - Vintage D'Agostino Jazz Bass Copy - RARE!!

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD

A gorgeous & rare vintage D'Agostino Jazz Bass copy, made between '82-84. Visually stunning with block inlay and bound neck and a tight, dense woodgrain with a luscious tobacco sunburst. I'm not sure of the wood but it kind of looks like mahogany, and the tone and feel reminds me of my old Guild B-301 which was mahogany.

Great condition, just a few marks (see pics below and here: Pictures by etthompson1 - Photobucket) of honest road & play wear, appears all original except bridge pickup professionally rewound by Bill Arnsparger of Arnsparger pickups (Arnsparger Guitar Pickups - Hand-wound Electric Guitar Pickups). Stamped "made in Japan" on neck plate.

Some sound clips are available, first through a POD X3 on the "RnB Standard" setting and then on their version of an Aguilar. Starts halfway between the p/ups, then neck, then bridge: D'Agostino Jazz Bass thru POD X3 by ETThompson on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

Then through my SWR Basic Black (some distortion from the recorder on bassier sounds): D'Agostino Jazz Bass thru SWR Basic Black by ETThompson on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

Chunky, vintage style neck and a deep, woody, muscular tone.

Freshly strung with D'Addario Chromes. Comes with a TKL hard shell case of similar vintage to bass. $225 + actual shipping.

For about the same price as a generic Squier, you can have a real & rare vintage bass with tons of authentic MOJO. I love this bass, only selling because I need the cash to cover a '73 P I just bought. I wish I could keep it but my loss is your gain!

Here's what the VG Price Guide '09 has to say about these: "1976 - early 90's. Import company established by Pat D'Agostino. Solidbodies imported from...Japan '82-84 (hence my date above)."

PM any questions.

Thanks Eric

Sure, here you go. More pics here: Pictures by etthompson1 - Photobucket

Let me know if you want a closer one of the logo and I'll take a shot of it. In the little swash under the name it says "New York", where they were originally sold from I think.

Thanks Eric

Darn ... a couple minutes to late.
I guess I shouldn't have taken the time to research it.

Thanks!
Ubado, if for some reason my pianist doesn't want it, I'll let you know.

Seeing as it has his name on it, I think he will though.

Thanks folks ... no worries ... it's happened to me before. I'm positive it'll happen again.
I really don't NEED it ... but ya know ... GAS happens and I'm a sucker for the bound & blocked.

@ubado - I know! That's part of why I picked it up in the first place, along with the simply *amazing* woodgrain and beautiful tobacco sunburst finish.

The grain really does look like mahogany, which is certainly unique in Jazz-bass-land; and seems in line with what little info there is on these on the inter-webs.

What's it weigh? Often, mahogany is heavy-ish.
Early 80's G&L's can easily run 10+lbs.

It is heavy - I only have a bathroom scale, but that shows it about 10.5#. It is a big mama all around!
