FS: Wal 5 String W/ Fretless AND Fretted Necks

Sign in to disble this ad
For Sale: 2002 Wal Mk II 5 String
American Walnut Facings, Mahagony Core
Fretless neck has unlined Ebony Fingerboard, Gold tuners
Fretted neck is Rosewood, with Black tuners

If you want a Wal bass, this is the one to have. This bass sounds, plays, and looks impeccable. And, with the two necks, it's like having two basses in one. Comes with the original hard case, the original documents from Pete, and a broken-hearted goodbye from me.

One special thing about this bass: on the back of the fretless neck is Pete's "Fish" logo, which I believe he only put on a few of the basses.

I contacted Paul to find out what the exact copy of this bass would cost to have built new:
-Fretless Mk II 5 string: $6695
-Fretted 5 string neck: $1805
-Tax: $1000
-Subtotal: $9500
-plus shipping ?
With a 14 month wait, minimum.

That would be over $10,000.
I am asking $8000.

I have many audio/video clips of this bass; PM me if you are serious about potentially buying and I will send them over.

Ummm....Why? Do you know how badly you will regret this six months from now? Even if Paul builds you another, it won't be the same as owning a Bass built by Pete. I can't even imagine selling my Wals. If you must though...that is one helluva bass! Good luck with the sale!

Believe me I know.....if I didn't need the cash, no chance I'd be selling.

Thank you for your compliment!

BTW: for those who inquired: no trades; cash sale only.

WAY out of my league bump, too. I've never seen a Wal in person, let alone played one, but I know they've been part of some legendary recordings. I bet the fretless is pretty sweet. If you sell it, I hope it goes to a truly deserving player.

Beautiful bass. Sorry to hear you have to sell such an amazing piece of art. If this was a 4 string I would be all over it. Best of luck finding this pretty lady a new home.

I can't stop looking at this thing. Cost a small fortune, but if I had the dough, I'd totally buy it. Someone needs to buy this now!
