FS: Zon Hyper bass (lined)

Sign in to disble this ad
Yep, you know you want it.
I've only seen 1 of these ever offered for sale here on TB.
Must be a good reason eh?

Excellent instrument. Comes with case, electronics work dandy.
There are a couple of blemished(you can see them a tad on the front, just about the 2nd octave mark) , but nothing that distracts from the beauty or playing. Partial lined. I prefer unlined and I really cannot take advantage of this instrument due to limited practice time these days. It pains me to sell it.

Shipping is about 40-50$ within the USA lower 48.

Asking 3200$.

My old bass with a great story. It was used has a hatchet by my ex-girlfriend that went crazy on me and tried to put a hole through my door (in order to get to me) with this Zon. If the cops didn't come as fast they did this bass probably would have been completely destroyed. The guy I sold it to promised to sell it back to me if he ever chose to, unfortunately he didn't keep his word. I even contacted him when I saw it on ebay a month ago, of course he wanted twice the price I sold it to him for.

Should have shot her dead. Or at least sued her for damages.

I do not like the lined aspect, I'm use to unlined instruments.
Well, now we know how the dents where incurred I suppose.
Still plays as it should. Nice as heck.

Love the tone and the neck. Just the way it hangs and feels in the hand and the nice position the Right Arm/Hand sits on the body/pick ups. Suppose I could fix the finish and then remove the lines and keep it. More work. But many like the lined part(I ain't one of them).

I might go back to the Mod fretless.
But I'll put both up for sale and see which goes 1st.

The bass played and sounded perfect after the incident. I sold her to help erase that event from my memory.

Wow, my gf occasionally throws things or breaks things but she is smart enough to have never touched one of my instruments. I'm not a violent person at all, but she knows to stay away from that line. This thread is getting deep huh?

And I thought my basses had some amazing stories to tell - not even close to this one though;

"Musician nearly bludgeoned to death with his own Hyperbass!"

Sure am glad you and this beautiful Zon survived!

I almost had this via ebay, but things never quite went through with the guy selling it. So close... always wanted one (and still do!). The timing just ain't right for me this time around, but someone's going to have a lovely bass. In other words, *bump* for a lovely bass I'm jealous of

10-20 YEARS and no probation, should be a law or something.
Bassist civil code 1234 eadg.

I have some others for sale as well, I am not looking to trade, I am looking to reduce the no# of instruments I have. This was a rare exception but the lines are driving me bonkers. I'd have to remove that and fix the finish spots and add detuners.

That's a fair amount of work and if I'm going to remove the lines/refinish anything, I'll go whole hog.

The harmonics are amazing.
I noticed M Manring's right arm resting on the top of the bass when I saw him play a while back and I found this amazingly comfy as well.

It's also lighter than one might expect.
Joe Zon makes some outright crazy amazing instruments.

I'll be buried with my Vinny.

Well, if the other 2 basses sell 1st, then I'll keep this and redo the fret board and take it to Joe to fix her up and then add the detuners.

Comes with the Zon specific case also.

I've been there, thanks, know the feeling well.

Then again, maybe I'll keep it and have her redone at Zon (I go by there once a week anyway).

Aw man that stinks. My wife sold her Blue 1979 Ric 4001 to her friend for $400 (!) with the same stipulation but hasn't been able to get it back....

I also should mention, the bass is reasonably light weight as well.

The unfortunate reality is those "offer it back to me first" deals never work out.... from experience.

Yep, like a deal with a Pawn shop.

I'm mulling over whether or not to have the neck redone and those lines removed and keeping it. Getting the detuners and going while, hug.

But is this one sells: then I'll keep this and do that.

Both are sweet, nice tappers, and you can play a mean swing and get fat tones or those bright snappy slappy stuff.

I'd say the Mod is warmer sounding though through my system.
The Zon has a peculiar but wonderful sound. If you can get use to or like it, then it'll be your main bass pretty quick.

Give Manring a listen for a Hyper bass sound.

Listen to it you have not heard of him or have lived in a cave for a long time.

Does the Modulus have a 24-Position Fingerboard, 17mm spacing at the bridge and 34" scale?

Thanks.

It is a 34' scale, that's one of the key elements. All Funks are 22 position/frets and all are 17mm string spacing. No issues with access or thumbing. The fretless is a 100$ upgrade BTW as is the added neck Bart J pick up. Damn good tone. Stays in tune.

It's a rare instrument as well, not as much as the Zon hyper through.

Hmmmm. What's the neck like on the Zon? Thin like a Jazz, thick like a P? Something inbetween, or different altogether? I have owned two Modulus feetles basses and lobed the graphite... Love that Manring sound, but then again he could play a washtub bass and make it sing.

Bump for an amazing bass! If I hadn't just bought a 4 string fretless I would be snatching this up in an absolute heartbeat to go with my piccolo strung Hyperbass.
