FS/FT: 1979 Musicman Stingray

Sign in to disble this ad
Up for trade (for sale, too) is my Musicman Stingray. Years ago, I saw one like this in a book and I knew I just had to have one. Made in 1979, so for those that aren't familiar with Musciman history, it's pre Ernie Ball. It weighs in at 10.6 lbs. Considering it's age, it's in really good shape. There is some checking in the finish and wear areas on the lower bout, upper horn, etc... It's probably in better shape than me.

The neck is broken in and has a nice amber hue to it (bar room smoke I imagine). There are two tuner mount screws that have the heads broke off. They could be extracted, but it never has been an issue for me other than cosmetically. The frets have been replaced about 2 years ago as the original were flat like the pancake. The truss rod works fine (moves freely), however (you knew there had to be a however soon, right? ), the issue is that the nut has bottomed out. A simple solution would be to add a spacer/washer to allow for additional relief adjustment. The relief isn't bad (I will measure this), but if you like little to no relief, then it will need some TLC. String height is currently 6/64" on the bass side and 5/64" on the treble.

To the best of my knowledge, this bass is original with the exception of the following: frets, pickup height screws and foam mutes.

It comes with a beat to sh#t case that functions great. The inside has a pretty blue velvet. It also comes with a Musicman leather/vinyl/pleather gig bag. The bag is in need of some repair, but could be made functional. It missing the zipper tab and the should strap needs fixed.

What I am looking for:
Something lighter than this hunk of wood. Primarily interested in Roscoe, Sadowsky, Zon and whatever else I haven't thought of yet. 5 stringers, preferred, but I will consider 6 ers. +/- cash for the right deal. I am in no hurry to let this one go so I will be a bit picky on trades.
I have been asked by a few members if I have an asking price. So here it is. $1995.00 shipped for the bass, the case and the bag. Thanks!

Hey Dan,
Yes you did! I'm not really in the market for another Pbass, but that does sound pretty sweet.

That thing looks wicked cool with the black neck on. Like if Darth Vader played bass, that's what he'd have.

Battle scars and shiny things

More pics...

This is the best representation of the actual neck color.

Still shiny after all these years.

This is by far the worst of the scars.

What do you think the Graphite neck is worth alone? i may be interested in the bass but not the graphite neck.

Thanks,

Ryan
