I got this in a TB trade and I am $1100 into it. This bass is worth every penny but my old funk band that I quit years ago just offered my my gig back and they pay really good. I need a good slap bass pronto.... here is the listing as Spencer had a few months ago:
FT: 1991 Yamaha BB-5000AF - Gunmetal Blue
This is a virtually mint condition 1991 Yamaha BB-5000AF (made in Taiwan) that I am offering up for trade. It has had it's original hardware changed out from gold to black and it now sports a vintage Ken Smith bridge that fits perfectly as well as Schaller tuners. The Ken Smith bridge is a vast improvement over the original Yamaha branded Gotoh bridge which was a total "kludge" to adjusts!
It is a neck through design finished in an understated metallic gunmetal blue color. It almost looks grey or even black in some light with a nice, but subtle, sparkle. It's a 34" scale with 19mm spacing at the bridge. It weighs just a little over 10 lbs. and will ship in it's original vintage style Yamaha hard shell case (also in excellent condition).
This bass has a wonderful organic fretless tone that really can effectively mimic an upright. The pickups and active 2 band preamp are stock Yamaha. The controls are volume, blend, treble and bass. The fingerboard is a gorgeous piece of ebony with deep rich looking grain. The action is very low and board is smooth and true. Absolutely no issues at all. It's a rare bass that you will likely never see anywhere else.
I am in need of a real slapper.... Stingray (single H only), MIA Jazz (prefer natural ash) but what I would really like to find is a fretted BB5000 in the same condition. Please feel free to run anything by me.
