UPDATE!!! Now FS: Benavente SCD #1! 5 string Buckeye/Mesquite Burl

Okay long story short, I traded my 78 Jazz for this Benavente with a fellow TB member (Pitbill) a few months back. Since he already had the bass on consignment at the Low End bass shop in Nashville, I just kept it there, hoping for a cash sale.

So here's my disclaimer, I have never had the bass in my hands, and do not have more info than what's given. That being said, according to Pitbill, the bass is in new condition with an incredibly low neck action and it is the first SCD that Benavente had built, hence the #1. A brand new one like this with all the custom features would cost you close to six grand. Also, the bass has been in Brian's possession all these time, and I am sure you guys are all familiar with his excellent reputation, and he does not mess around. :)

Here are the specs:
- SCD #1 (First Benavente SCD ever)
- Buckey burl top/back
- Mesquite burl back
- Buckey headstock
- Mahogany body
- Pearwood core
- Maple neck
- Ebony Board
- Abalone inlays
- Lowend Pre: 3 Band/Vol/Vol/Active/passive/single coil switching
- Gold/black hardware
- Custom spacing, 1 3/4 nut and 18mm string spacing at the bridge

EDIT: Now open to trading it down for a less fancy bolt-on Smith (ie, CR5M, BSR5M...etc) plus cash.

Here's what I am looking to trade, a 5-string Ken Smith, must have multi-layer body and in reasonable condition. Prefer neck through, but may consider higher end bolt on. Once the deal is agreed upon, I will pay Brian to have the bass shipped to you. You must be willing to ship the Smith to Canada though. **I may also consider a Sadowsky NYC 5, MTD 535 or Alleva Coppollo 5.

Hotness

Yes, EXTREME hotness!!! I wish this bass was for sale, not just trade bait. The Low End Bass Shop does not even have it listed anywhere on its website.

Just double checked, it is there, under the used basses section :)

Thanks much!!!

Sorry I have no idea, you will need to contact Brian for it. Meanwhile, here's a thread about the bass.

Thanks; that was a good read. I actually owned for about a year or so a single-cut that Chris Benavente and Brian Barrett collaborated on in 2008 2009. It was built for the 2009 NAMM Show, and is a very nice bass. The one that you have listed for trade here (and that is in Brian's shop) is a VERY nice-looking bass, and I am sure that it also plays great!

Wow. I don't like gold hardware or single-cuts, but... this is STUNNING.

Check out the white tiger elite I have for sale. I would need some additional cash in addition to the Benavente to make it work though.

Even still, in my dreams.

Literally. Dreams. This thing is gorgeous.

I found a few pictures to post to help your description....I can say this is THE BEST 5 string I have ever personally owned or played (and I have owned many including Smiths and Alembics.) Brian's preamps are extremely versatile and this bass to me had "The" tone and can achieve a crazy low string action. Only reason I let her go was switched back to 4 strings. No disappointments to whomever ends up with this one. This bass cost nearly $5,000 new in 2004 (today the new price would be well beyond that for all of the custom features added) and still looks as it did the day Chris built it. Pictures just don't do this bass justice as to how beautiful it is in person.
