I have a 50s P bass that is absolutely awesome. Only problem is its not getting any love since I play 5's the majority of the time.
Its trans Blonde / maple with all the covers and tugbar. Currently strung with flats; weighs 8.5lbs. If I could find this exact bass in a 5, I'd be stoked.
Only trade I would do is a Fender American Standard Jazz V or Precision V plus cash on my end. 4+1 tuners and no deluxes. 9 lbs and under.

I had it up for sale recently on TB but ended up keeping it. I have seven other Precisions including 3 vintage ones, all of them USA versions. The 50's Classic will hold its own with ANY of them. Bang for the buck, these are the best P-bass value-wise Fender has ever put on the market, IMO. All they need is a good set of flats and you have....bass nirvana.
The 5-er notwithstanding, if you let it go, you will probably regret it later!

Obviously, I have ulterior motives by having something I want to sell / trade as well. But ...
Clearly you are a Fender guy and that's way cool. Just wondered if you ever tried a Lakie? I'm 51 and only really committed to a 5 last year - it's gone very well and I attribute that to Lakland. As a matter of fact, I moved from a Am Dlx J IV to a Lakland 5 and I thought the 5 was significantly easier to play despite the wider board for the extra string (and it delivered both P, J, and other tones pretty simply - too many buttons confuse me!).
Anyway, I'm not solely a Lakie guy (or any other brand for that matter) and I am not a Lakland stockholder (nor have I played one on TV) - just wanted to suggest that you check 'em out if you haven't yet.
Good luck to you. Should I get lucky and move one of my 2 for sale, your P would definitely be something I'd consider (if it lasts). Peace. FS or FT: Modified Lakland 55-01 w/ P/J Setup |

The tone (w/flats) is killing and the neck is one of the best-feeling necks I’ve played. Basically, this in a 5-string would do it for me. Quote:

FS or FT: Modified Lakland 55-01 w/ P/J Setup | Thanks for the offer. I’ve followed the transformation of that particular PJ “55-01”. Cool, unique bass you've got there.
I played a JO5 for 5 or 6 years and had a 55-02 for about 3 years. The JO5 was heavier than I liked and the 35” coupled with that was aggravating my banged up shoulder and neck. The 55-02 was 8lbs and the reach seemed a little less. That was the one that got away, but it helped pay for the CallowHill and that’s a bad mother...
Thanks for the offers and warnings. Unless the perfect deal comes up, I'll probably just keep it and work towards a P5.
