Body: Ash, maple burl top
Neck: maple, ebony fret-board
Pre/pickups: Bart (custom MTD)
Weight: approx. 8.9 pounds
Condition: excellent
Special: ebony control knobs, ebony truss cover, MTD HSC
This bass is in excellent condition, with only the most superficial playing wear. It was sent to Michael Tobias for set-up/maintenance in December, so it’s in perfect playing condition.
I’m specifically looking for a ZON Sonus 519, or Modulus Q5 (+$). I will also entertain other offers, but I’m really seeking the previous basses mentioned.
When this bass was set-up by Mike Tobias, he placed the value of it at $3500. If I were to do an out-right sell, it would be at that price. But at the present, I’m just looking to trade. Feel free to ask any questions.
The following is a video of my bass being played by TB’s Mikebass. It’s a good demonstration of the tone and playability: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZzpxO37-No Here are the pics:

And in the spirit of full disclosure, it's not quite that light weight (8.9), but it's not heavy, either. It's more like 9.5 or so... but definitely under 10 pounds.
However, something not mentioned yet here is this particular bass has a pretty thin neck profile from front to back... not as "chunky" (if you can use that word with an MTD) as most. Very fast neck. VERY fast. It's an absolute DREAM to play, and it has little or no dead spots pretty much anywhere. Something you get from the more typical weight ash Mike likes best. Just sings.
It also has a completely void free burl top, which is not unheard-of, but it is a particularly high quality... think of it like a "select" top... like a "10 plus".
It was HARD for me to sell this bass. Someone will score with this sucka. |

I used a bathroom scale, and made my best estimation on it... looks to be a half pound off. Still, it's an extremely comfortable bass to play. |

And if you want backup on this, TB'ers mikebass, Vision, and tombowlus have all played this bass and been blown away by its action (and tone, for that matter). |

Are you having weather issues in Ohio with your action/intonation? Outdoor gigs type-of-thing? |

No weather issues out of the ordinary... other than the usual dreary Ohio winter. The neck sets very well, with minimal maintenance.
I just had an opportunity to play a Zon Sonus and Modulus a few months ago, and was very impressed by them... more so with the Zon. I did like the composite necks on both brands.
So I'm just "testing the waters" to see if any Zon or Modulus basses would be available for trade. |
