FT: Fretted & Fretless G&L SB-2s

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Y'all,

The worm has turned and I'm needing more variety in my lineup. Here's what can go:

G&L SB-2 fretless
- ash body
- unlined ebony fingerboard
- jazz-like neck (1.5" wide at the nut)
- non-original hard case
- modified to stacked master-vol/j-vol and tone

A sweet fretless but I don't have the time to get my intonation to where I'm willing to play it in public (same reason I let my last fretless go). I've also found that my Rumblefish give me a sound I like in the semiacoustic group(s) I was planning on playing fretless in. So it's extra.

Currently wearing TI Jazz Flats - I can swap them out for D'Addario Chromes if you prefer.

*** FRETLESS TRADED ***

This is a very cool SB-2 with some interesting features. It has black crinkle pickguard, bridge and neck plate with a bicut neck with eye-gouger. It's light - probably about 8-3/4 lbs. I've modified the controls to stacked master-vol/j-pickup vol and a tone. It does have some wear - it's not a closet queen, it's a player. It came in a gig bag and that's what it will ship in.

possible trades:
- G&L L-2000 w/1.5" nut width (<9lbs, satin neck)
- G&L L-1000 w/1.5" nut width (<10bls, satin neck)
- EBMM Sterling (<10lbs, HS or HH only)
- Lakland Skyline Decade (like anyone has one to trade yet)
- Lakland Skyline Scheff
- Fender Thinline Telebass (MIJ, mudbucker+J, jazz neck)
- maybe an ASAT semihollow (3-bolt neck) - under 10lbs, satin neck, 1.5" nut width
- Carvin B800
- Schroeder 15+L (4 Ohm, rhino)
- other basses that are: semihollow, have a full upper horn, 4-string and narrow necked
- maybe an SWR WorkingPro 12 (not sure, I'm still thinking about that) or other <45lb, 200+W tiltback combo

Let me know what you've got and what you are thinking trade-wise. Cash prices:

$695 for the fretted

check with me for the local pickup & handing over cash money discount if you are here in the Houston area

After more thought (and paying for a skinny necked L2K) I'd take $775 for the fretless and $725 for the fretted.

Some more trade ideas:

- Carvin B800
- Schroeder 15+L (4 Ohm, rhino)
- other basses that are: semihollow, have a full upper horn, 4-string and narrow necked

maybe an SWR WorkingPro 12 (not sure, I'm still thinking about that) or other <45lb, 200+W tiltback combo

*** Fretless Traded ***

The fretted is still available. As per some questions I've had I will restore it to stock (two volumes, no tone) if desired before shipping.

I've tweaked the trades - L2Ks only if under 10lbs, Sterling HS or HH only, added Skyline Scheff, yanked the Climax/L-1500 idea (changes based on recent aquisitions )

Sure I can do a payment plan - send me one payment of $695 and I'll send you the bass.

It will probably be here until the New Year at this rate as I'll be away from home on vacation for while soon.

I did have the thought that I could keep this SB-2 and sell my Tribby instead - I don't know if that would hold more attraction for people.

I'm not sure about this - I was planning on selling the more valuable (and cooler and lighter) US SB-2 and keeping the Tribby around but may have to "let the market decide" which one is heading out. I'd be looking for $495 shipped for it if I let it go.

Drop me a PM when you are ready and one or both may still be around. My kids fill up my free time so meeting 1/2 way to SA is doubtful but I just shipped a bass to Dallas and I dropped it off on the way to work and it was delivered later that day so I suspect SA would work the same.

Added an L1K to the trade list (doubtful that anyone has a 1.5" nut width one to trade but I wouldn't mind one)

Got the fretless today and it certainly looks sweet. I can't wait to get it home and plug it in.

I put some Chromes on the black/maple SB-2 and can't see why I'd want to let it go. I just need to remember not to bother with rounds on an SB-2 (on an L2K they are great, but on an SB-2 I like groundwounds/flats).
