FT/FS 1978 Fender Precision Fretless - AMAZING SHAPE!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
All,

I bought this from John just under a year ago and even though it is likely the best sounding and easiest to play fretless I have ever played, I can't play unlined fretless to save my life!

Pics are posted below, but a bunch can be found in the original sale thread. The bass is in truly amazing shape for its age. Fender Precision Fretless, vintage, 1978!

The good...- A SUPERLIGHT 8.4lbs by my digital bathroom scale! Beat that for a late 70's P!
- Amazingly clean for 33 years old bass. There are only a few cosmetic issues on the body (see below). From a few feet away, it looks new.
- The neck is like new. Very little wear and basically ding/wear free. Truss rod is rock solid in perfect working order. Always strung with flats so the FB is in great shape.
- Plays effortlessly and sounds amazing.

The bad....- Replacement PG, Tuners, PU and nut. All top quality parts though.... PG is period correct 3 ply BWB, tuners are Fender branded, the PU is a Basslines and the nut is brass and likely replaced when brass was all the rage in the late 70's/early 80's.
- No case. I will ship in a Ritter gig bag but packaged to withstand nuclear warefare.
- 3 or 4 dings on the sides and back. Only a couple of very light scratches on the top. Scratches can likely can be buffed out, but not really even noticable. I am all about full disclosure in any case.
- No covers

All in all, this is a killer playing, sounding and looking collectable, but absolutely giggable bass. I have had more compliments on this bass at gigs than any of my coffee table Roscoes or Sadowskys.

I am interested in trades but will offer it for sale for $1450 shipped/insured/PayPal in CONUSA or Canada.

Potential trades (even trade or +/- $$$ are ok).... As per the below, I am willing to take almost anything in for trade except for children and pets:
- Any 4/5/6 string LINED fretless. Fender, Pedulla, Alembic are examples, but throw anything at me. I can only say yes, no or laugh in your face. Just kidding about the last one.
- 70's Fender P with fretted maple neck
- Fretted or Fretless RIC
- Modulus, Alembic, Pedulla, Sadowsky, Gibson, pre-EB Stingray, Bongo 5/6 HH
- High end guitars (Strat, Les Paul, Martin or Gibson acoustic, PRS, etc.)
-Tube amps (Hiwatt, Ampeg, /13, etc.)

I will post pics tonight if this bass is still available.

Thanks for looking!

I owned this bass for several years and sold it to Baird6868. First of all, it was a pleasure to meet him, this is a solid TBer who is very trustworthy.

Secondly, if you want a P that sounds great, this is the one. It will not disapoint. I really REALLY loved this bass, it delivers. I mention it here because sound is not something that is evident in ads, but this is a good one.

Take care!

John

New pics.

Please look at John's pics as there is a scrape on the side of the bass that I couldn't accurately capture. Also, the Ernie Ball straplocks will be replaced with the original stock Fenders.

Behold!

More to come.....

Wow... if I only had the money to buy... and the time to learn how to play it well...

Good luck, that thing's a beaut.

Trade?

I have a near mint 83' Maple USA Precision neck and I've been searching far and wide for a lineless fretless Fender neck. Any chance of a trade?

I must say... it really is cooler in person. It is a really neat 3 tone SB. I have only seen this vivid a SB on a couple of 70's Strats.

Still available but some interest locally. It will likely be sold locally on Sunday, but fellow TBers get first dibs! A trade would be cool as I would just give my wife the cash anyways if I sold it!
