FT/FS: 6 string Jazz by Performance Guitar

This was listed as a trade, but now I'm doing SALE ONLY. Found another bass which I'm buying, and the money from the sale of the Performance will need to go to savings land. Price is $2050 including CONUS shipping. FIRM.

Specs according to Performance website:

Model: YB-6
Build year: 2011
Body: Ash (or alder, if you believe the guy I swapped with)
Neck & Fingerboard: Hard Maple/Maple
Frets: Medium, 21
Scale: 34"
Nut Width Size: 2 & 1/8"
Pickups: Performance KAR J6 (inline double coil hum canselling pickup)
Preamp: Performance TTL BP300 (3band EQ with live/recording mode switch)
Controls:Volume, Pan, Treble/Bass, Middle
Hardware: Chrome
Finish: Natural
Bridge: Performance (I'm pretty sure it's a Badass with a Performance logo on it)
Weight: 10.5lb

About the bass: Instrument is in excellent cosmetic condition except for one weird super subtle blemish on the upper part of the body to the right of the pick guard (pictured in image six from the gallery below, if you can see it) I don't know what it is, I just noticed it one day while staring at this beauty too much. Neck is wide and fairly thin, with a low/medium setup that's great for lighter fingers and jazzy chops. Probably set too low for rock or slap, but I'm sure it'd adapt reasonably well considering it's basically a six string hi-fi 70's configuration J-bass. I much prefer the pickups/pre-amp on this to the ones on the LEJ I previously had. The sound is exactly what you would expect from a hi-fi custom J, meaning it sounds like a 70's Fender Jazz but with a clarity and definition that the vintage instruments don't usually have. It's got more sparkly highs, and much beefier lows, but it has the definite sonic identity of a J. Also, though it's a small detail, I have to mention that the knobs on this are some of the best designed knobs I've ever had the pleasure of turning. I know, I know, they're just knobs, but really these are just so sturdy and balanced and they track perfectly, so smooth... I love em'.

Here's your bassporn fix for the day...

Enjoy!

Seriously. The only alder I've seen that looked like that was on this Sadowsky: Club Sadowsky (Part 18)

Thanks for the input Tom. Maybe I'll end up with one of your basses at the end of this thread!

On YouTube there is one with Andrew Gouche playing a Performance Jazz 6'er.

Thanks for looking out j-raj, but no two of them sound the same so I would like to hear this particular one.

Actually, remarkably enough that bass sounds a lot like mine! I'm actually kind of weirded out by how similar they sound. Obviously it does plenty of other tones well too, but I have definitely found and used a tone remarkably similar to the one in that video. It also has a great fat rock sound with the highs rolled off completely and the bass boosted almost all the way.

I don't have any sound clips, and I don't have any interface either. If I can get ahold of some unmixed stuff from the studio project I used this on I could send you those, but what kind of stuff are you playing? Also, I don't think I'll be able to get ahold of those recordings anyways =( at least not until a mix is done.

It has a very mapley/ashy sound. Really bright sparkly highs, super colorful, with a real round but well contained low end. The B string sounds remarkably similar to the E string, which is really great if you do a lot of melodic stuff in your low register. I always find it annoying when B strings sound radically different and ruin the uniformity of a line.

Hope that helps!

Bump

I can't find the video of it with Andrew Gouche but there is another one up there with a guy playing my old bass. the pickups were humcancelling, not single coils. I put some Nordy singles in it and swapped out the Bartolini pre with a Sadowsky pre. I sure wish I had kept it although that baby blue finish was not the coolest thing. Get in touch with me via PM. I don't have any trade bait but I do have plastic....

Here's my old one before my mods. If I can swing this my LEJ 6 might be up on the block....

BTW, ash body for sure...

rebump

Now I remember.........I replaced the humcancelling PU's with singles that Yas made, not nordies. Somebody has one smokin 6 string bass with the wussy baby blue finish.

Sounds like a nice set of mods! If it didn't have such a goofy pick-guard, I woulda dug that baby blue body, it's nice and subtle.

PMed for the heck of it.
