FT/FS CallowHill J(unk) 5 for Vintage Fender

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, Someone talk me out of this.

Traded

I have the prototype serial #0001 Callowhill J(unk) 5 built for Maurice Fitzgerald. It is basically a souped up Marcus Miller Jazz 5. It is natural ash with a birdseye maple and fretboard with inlays (pics to come). It sport a pair of Nordstrand NJ5s, a Sadowsky 2 Band pre w/VTC, and the Redeemer circut passive buffer system. For full disclosure it does have some finish checking on the lower rear (under the strap peg) and some other cosmetic wear. The craftsmanship is phenomenal, and it weighs in at around 9 1/2 pounds. It plays amazing and looks killer.

Soon after I got the bass I took it to my tech (used to tech for Skynyrd,Mollly Hatchet, and other 70's rockers) and he gave it a clean bill of health and set it up with medium Chromes. I plays like butta!

Alas, I have a new gig that calls for a Jazz bass. Therefore, in the Talkbass inspired frenzy that we here call G.A.S., I am looking to possibly trade this bass for a nice, and I mean nice Jazz. I am looking for either a vintage,CS, or CC. And I really, really love the cream/white and rosewood combo. oh, and 4 string only. Gotta keep it original baby.

As for a cash price, I really have no Idea... Tim charges around $3500 for a basic Hill and considering this ones history I really don't know how to price it. But, per TB rules I will start with a price tag at 0.

Pictures to come later. But for now here is a link to the previous owner's youtube channel where he talks about the bass in depth.

Thanks!!

Tim does stellar work, and is a stand up guy. Don't worry about the Dr. Bass cab in the shot. Even though Marc turned out to be what he is, the cabs themselves smoke. Good luck bump on this!

I will have to measure it when I get home. It feels close to a DJ5 to me.

From Tim's Website

There are two models, a four and a five string. Each one comes in either a "60's" pickup spacing, a "70's" pickup spacing, or the “two seven” spacing designed specifically under the direction of Maurice Fitzgerald. The Two-Seven is a 70's pickup spacing with the neck pickup moved further towards the neck, (carefully situated in a position where harmonic interference will not occur) allowing for a thicker compliment to the 70's positioned bridge pickup. The bodies are all 1-5/8” thick. 1-13/16 nut width is standard on five strings, 1-1/2 is standard on the 4's. Alder or Ash bodies, Maple, Rosewood, or Ebony fingerboards are standard options included in the price. 34" scale only. Any color you want is doable usually at no upcharge. Like all CallowHills, the J's feature a 1/4" thick vintage bone nut due to the fact it won't split under pressure like it's 1/8” factory counterparts. Hipshot hardware and clover keys are standard but other styles of Hipshot can be substituted. (ie ultralites)
The logo is huge and unapologetic, inlaid in Wenge. The headstock is engineered to be as small as possible but the added thickness (11/16”) helps to eliminate dead spots.

Birdseye maple fingerboard add $50.00

Birdseye neck add $200.00

Preamp a la carte, any change from passive adds a minimum $150 depending on the preamp.

Bass players like to screw around, so stock basses with a passive configuration will often include a battery box just incase a preamp is desired at a later date.
