FT/FS Early 80's Mockingbird MIJ-blk- $600/trade for 4bangr

Sign in to disble this ad
hard to find early 80's MIJ Mockingbird bass.
trade for 4 banger or..$600+shipping
or $575 local NYC sale

will consider trades for 4 string or narrow nut/tight spacing 5'er
purchased in Tokyo - recently set up by (Ex-Sadowsky)Norio Imai,
mahogany sides/body.
2 split P pu's
coil splitter for each pu
phase switch
5 pos varitone
active/passive modes
34" scale
maple neck
gloss black
straplocks
BC Rich gigbag (w logo)
rosewood fb

new set of steel XL's...45-105

these are the earliest imports(Japanese) ,
with "BC Rich" spelled out in a cross configuration,on headstock,in mother of pearl..

The ones with the full name inlayed in a cross pattern are the earliest NJ series
made in Japan .
Probably 81-84. Great basses.
The pickups are either Diamarzio or a Japanese copy of them. This series had both,

this bass is thick sounding, very buttery, warm, active, plush tone..can be very aggressive too..

pickups and preamp have high output, and the general tone is just super warm,fat,thick,burly..
everyone says that,ok..but THIS is a bass for folks who want a big bass sound,NOT for bright-slappers or poppy stuff, it's for giant, supportive, thick active bass.

If u struggle to get a warm, thick,HUGE tone..this is for you, it definitely wants to go in that direction and with the varitone,& the "mission control" array of switches, you can get ALOT of tones,
dime the preamp, turn the amp up, and it overdrives...rockers will love it,or folks that like a pbass-like warm tone. The tones I achieve on this bass are actually way thicker than my Sadowsky, very stout indeed.

some minor wear, nothing major, typical for a 25 yr old bass, but general shape is very clean.any scratches are basically on back, not the top.

Disclosure: someone tried to move the strap button at one point, there's a tiny screw hole in back where it was...plus a couple of others right next to it..
hard to notice,I just remembered after playing her yesterday, they're very hard to find, but definitely there,in back.
I'd guess someone tried to improve upon the neck diviness by moving the button to the back of the body.
They could be filled and hidden totally with wood filler/blk paint..but again, they're very tiny and no biggie.
I suppose it's been messed with very little for a 25 year old bass,considering it's still 100%
stock and this is the only real flaw.

I bought her in Japan, since I've always been a big fan of Mockingbirds,my fave body shape..I figured it'd be a good "hot" looking rock bass, and when I heard that fattness..and played her, I jumped on it in a second.
It achieved all the Pbass/warm tones that My j's just don't cover

.But alas,I just seem to feel comfortable on my J's,maybe it's the 1.5" nut widths, but I keep going to my Jbasses and nothing else gets played..pretty sure it's the wider spacing, slows me down..

figured maybe I'd see what's out there...I still love this bass,so it'd have to be something cool..

come try her out, midtown NYC studio...

looking to trade for fretted 4's.
.possibly a fretted 5'er,
(but must have narrow nut width, like a soundgear or something)..I'm primarily a 4banger..

I'd trade for a hot franken type bass with good parts,
I guess..If I felt I'd get use out of it,
1.5 nut width preferred.

you're in Riverdale,if we met..
& I played and liked her,possibly..

I usually wind up with J's because I'm really into the narrow nut widths, tight spacing..
and I do own a few..
in a perfect situation I'd love a 1.5 nut with a bridgebucker,split "P" or something other than J/J

got some nice offers,

for some reason, there's been a deluge of 35" scales...
I'm used to 1.5"- 1 5/8" nut widths, 34" scale stuff...
wide spacing/necks are a little awkward for me..

The Mock is pretty darn clean,
both the passive & active modes both are very cool, warm and very LARGE tone...
wish she was more of a J profile & spacing, otherwise she'd be getting played alot.

$475 PRICE DROP

$475(+ shipping)
okay, this is pretty much the lowest it'll go..

I want to buy a new acoustic-electric from Martin, it'll cost me $420 with a 50% endorsement discount, plus a bit more for the gigbag and shipping,so this'll get me there.

Vintage NJ's are great basses, if it was a Neck Thru, I would already own it, but since I have 2 USA Mock's, I just can't justify it. Free bump for a BCR though!!
