FT/FS/Feeler: Lakland Skyline DJ 5

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all!

So, for your viewing pleasure, I have this Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones 5.

It's a fantastic Bass and it plays and sounds great.

So, why am I selling it?

Well........ Since I bought my P-bass recently, I've come to realize that I feel most comfortable on 4 string basses. The only 5 stringers that I've felt comfortable on were 33" scale basses with a high C string. I never really use a low B and I feel that this bass would be better served being used by someone who could take full advantage of what it has to offer. It sounds and feels good, but I've spent so much time playing my P-bass and my OLP that this has spent too much time in the case to be useful to me.

I also hold the belief that if I don't use a bass for 3 months or so, that someone else should be playing it. This is a Bass that deserves to be played.

The Bass is currently string E-C, but the nut hasn't been re-cut, so it is still setup to be string B-G. It's strung with DR Hi-beams ATM, I believe (Usually use D'addario, but decided to try something different )

The Bass weighs about 10lbs. It balances very well. The electronics are all stock. There are Schaller Straplocks on it and, since I have them on a few basses, I'll throw in the strap attachments so that you can use the straplocks properly

It plays well with very low action. I haven't heard much in the way of buzz at all since I got it.

It does have a few dings here and there, the biggest of which is on the headstock. I bumped the headstock into an amp and the chip came off, something I see on more than a few Laklands. Also, there are a few very small scratches on the body, all of which require that you look for them in order to find them. The neck also has a few very faint dents that are visible only very slightly. They do not affect playability.

One last thing....... I've had this bass signed by Chris Wood of MMW. His signature is on the back of the headstock and you can see it in the photos below.

Here are the Specs: (Taken from: http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/produc...ring-bass.html)

* 5 String
* Nut Width 1.8”
* Nut Type Delrin
* Fret Size .041/.085”
* Width at Final Fret 3”
* 1st Fret Neck Depth .81”
* 12th Fret Neck Depth .92”
* Fingerboard Radius 12”
* Scale Length 35”
* Frets 21
* Bridge String Spacing .75”
* Neck Wood Flat-Sawn Maple with Graphite Reinforcement Bars
* Body wood(s) Swamp Ash
* Fingerboard Rosewood with Block Inlays
* Maple with Block Inlays
* Tuners Hipshot Design
* Truss Rod Access At Neck Heel -- 5/32" Hex
* Pickguard White
* Controls Volume/Volume/Tone (Passive)
* Bridge Lakland Dual-Design Bridge
* Pickups Aero Single Coil

So what am I looking for?

FT: I'm looking for another bass of similar value. I'm really digging Sadowskys, but I know that might be stretching it a bit. I'm also looking for other Laklands and Fenders or Warwicks.

You know what? Surprise me! I'm really interested in a Victor Bailey Jazz or something similar as well.

FS: $1000 O.B.O (Buyer pays Shipping)

Now, to sweeten the deal, here are some pics and some video links. The pics were taken about an hour ago. The video links are of various times, 2 of me playing DI into my computer, and one of me playing with a band into the camera Mic. It still sounds great even through it!

Here you go!

Look at those Inlays.

There are a few dings on the back of the neck, but they aren't easily visible until you look for them. You will be able to feel them slightly, though.

Back of headstock and Chris Wood's Signature.

Headstock Chip

Thanks for the interest. However, I'm not really one for instruments that look like they've been relic'd. It's nice, just not my cup of tea.

Good luck,
Malcolm.

Trade Possibility

I have an American Fender Jazz Deluxe V that I am considering trading. Natural finish with Tortoise pickguard. Can shoot some pics your way if interested.

Previous Fender trade offer

I just re-read your post and saw you were interested in 4 strings. That would mean my trade offer would be a no go. Sorry about that, hehehe. Good luck.

Thanks for the interest, but I'm really only interested in 4 string basses right now.

Have a few good offers, so I'm going to be making a decision pretty soon. Any more offers out there?

Malcolm.
