I acquired this bass in a trade from youngs. The trade was initiated by my Ken Smith thread here:
FT/FS feeler Ken Smith BSR5TNE (Black Tiger Elite)
youngs REALLY wanted the Smith so even though I didn't know a thing about STR basses I completed a trade/cash deal that I felt I could live with. When considering this deal I had two concerns. One was that I had never seen or played an STR bass and I had to research them. After researching the basses I was comfortable with what I learned. Second was a concern with the 19 MM SS. I was considering other trades with two TB members for 6-string 19MM basses, and still had the concern with the SS on those but couldn't arrive at cash terms I was good with. So why trade/sell......bottom line is the string spacing. I am used to Spector USA NS5XL basses and they have 17.5 SS. I have always been extremely comfortable there so I knew this bass might not be a keeper. If you read my last post in the Smith thread linked above you'll read that I posted my concern on the SS before ever receiving this bass, so here I am gassing for something different.
About this bass:
I've given this bass a thorough evaluation and it just kills in every way. Amazing neck, pickups/pre, hardware frets, etc. If it was 17.5 or 18 SS you wouldn't be reading this. This is a fantastic bass for those who like 19 MM SS. Excellent woods, fit and finish, pickups and electronics, and hardware. I've had many bolt on's including USA Spector's, Roscoe's, Nordstrands, etc. and the build quality on this bass is easily right there in this boutique category. I've read references to these basses being called "Japanese Foderas". I don't make this claim myself as I have never played a Fodera. I belive this bass is around one year old or so. The bass is in excellent condition. There is very minor and slight player wear but nothing serious. Many pics will be shown in the next post.
So what am I interested in? Well a 5-stringer with 17.5 to 18 MM spacing, 34 or 35 inch scale is okay. I miss my Roscoe's and my USA bolt on Spector so those are certainly options. I had a Mike Lull MV that I loved but it was a 4-banger so it's gone now but might consider a Lull 5er. Run anything past me or let me know if you're interested in an outright sale. When youngs was offering this bass he was asking $2,000. I can take less than that but it looks like the bass should fall close to that number. Feel free to make an offer.
Sorry for the lengthy description. Thanks. Dave
