FT/FS: Fender Jazz Bass MIM $300 obo

I guess this is sort of a Franken-Jazz. I bought it on Craigslist, so I'm not really sure about it's history, but the serial number dates it to 1990-ish, if I remember right.

Originally it had a black body, but there was a decent sized chip on the backside of the body, so I bought a Squier VM natural body to swap out. It's a pretty close fit, but there is a small gap in the neck pocket. Maybe the size of a credit card?
The original black body is still sitting around, if anyone's interested I can take pics of it.
I also installed a killswitch, kind of frivolous, but I like it

Minor cosmetic issues, there's a bit of a dent/scrape on the 3rd fret, but it doesn't affect the sound, and I had a hard time photographing it. The body has some light scratches, but nothing through the finish. The pickguard had to be dremeled to fit, and there are extra holes drilled for a high-mass bridge.

I was told that the neck is a vintage re-issue, as the truss rod adjustment is at the heel instead of the nut.

I would rather trade this bass than sell it, and it's really hard for me to value this bass, so I'm open to offers as well as partial trades plus or minus cash (paypal).

My 300 dollar asking price includes shipping.

I'm more interested in trading though really, and I'm kind of open as to what I'm looking for.

Mainly though, I need some kind of USB based recording system. The mic input on my laptop just died
I also need a head, 500 watts minimum.
Also looking for short scale basses, and pedals.
I'm not happy with my Bass Muff, mainly because there's no blend knob, and it's just a bit too balls to the wall for me, so if you have a nice and versatile bass dist. pedal my ears are open.
Really open to new gear now that I think about it, so shoot me an offer, never hurts to ask.

without further ado, my fender...

the headstock looks very interesting ,where the standard mim would have the fender logo maybe a cm below where yours is,it also doesnt have a skunk stripe so it may very well be a reissue neck of some kind, it looks very good in the pics.

very interested!
My roommate used to have one, and I almost cried when the bulb went out. The replacements cost almost as much as a new (and cheaper) projector would have.

what brand? how many hours are on it?

(EDIT) P.S. is your band name a Misfits reference? I love them! Definitely had a huge impact on me and my musical taste.

thanks for the tip narud, like I said, I picked her up on CL and don't know much about it, but someone suggested that it could be a reissue.
I can't understand why anyone in his right mind would put the truss rod at the heel unless it was to be period accurate.

Fun fact: This bass was inspected by Margarita and Letty!
(according to the sticker on the inside of the neck)

PM replied.

I'm leaving the thread open through the weekend to see if any other interesting offers come along, if not it's going to mcapote.

I happen to be very interested in the Squier VM J bass...
And this seems to be just that with a fender neck and headstock for the same price?
Nice.

I'm missing the maple neck and block inlays from the original VM...
Though having Fender on the headstock can make up for that x]

Any chance you can do less than $300? Or is mcapote's projector worth that or more? :P

For now the bass is on hold for a local trade. If it falls through mcapote is next in line.
Someone offered to trade a SWR SM400-S for the bass, and will even pick it up.

I'm a terrible drummer, so I'm mainly looking for bass gear.

"I'd still like to leave the thread open through the weekend, just to see what other offers I might get."

Sorry bro, it was much more cheaper for me to make a local trade and I need bass gear more than the projector.
