FT/FS-possibly: Spector NS5CRFM Black Cherry w/EMG 40TW bridge pup

Sign in to disble this ad
Up for trade and possibly for sale is my 5-string Spector Euro Czech-made bass guitar.
This bass has treated me well. I bought it used in the summer of 2008 I believe.

You can see more pictures here:
http://s57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...%20Euro%205LX/
Please note the captions underneath each of the individual pictures as they describe the cosmetic condition of the bass and attempt to point out areas of interest. That being said, this bass is in overall very good condition as far as having no large dings or huge chips in the finish, as old as it is. Just a lot of normal gigging-wear scratches for the most part.

Now for some info on the instrument’s specs:
This is a Czech-made Spector. I’m not sure based upon the year it was made whether it is technically considered to be a “Euro” series model, but I think it is.
From an email conversation I had with PJ over at Spector in 2008 after acquiring the bass I was informed that based upon the serial number the bass was made approximately between 1995 and 1999.
The circuit inside the electronics cavity of the bass seems to read “BT Rev-A” and is some sort of special EMG BT System preamp, I believe. The controls are master volume, pickup blend, treble cut/boost, and bass cut/boost.
I replaced the bridge pickup in the bass from the EMG 40DC to the EMG 40TW. The volume pot is a push/pull and toggles between the single and dual-coil possibilities of the 40TW bridge pup. The neck pickup is stock (as far as I know) and is therefore an EMG 40DC.

The bass plays very well. The action is pretty low on it, not excessively low though. There is some minor fret buzz past the 12-fret octave on A-G strings. It’s more a bedroom annoyance though, in my opinion.

The main reason I’m looking to move this bass is that while I love the feel and tone of an upper-range Spector, I found out I’m really not a 5er guy, though that seems to be the increasing trend in a lot of the bass world.
That being said, I’d really rather trade this bass than simply sell it. Here's what I'd consider trading for:
American or Euro Spector 4-string with P/J or J/J pickup setup (preferably natural finish or amber)
Pedulla MVP 4-string, one with the original bartolini electronics and pickups
U.S. Peavey Cirrus 6-string (to cover all my potential "extra string needs")
Lakland Bob Glaub Skyline
Yahama TRB6PII or Yamaha TRB6JP

If you have something else you’d like to offer as a trade, go ahead and shoot me a PM.

As far as a sale price, I'd really rather not sell it outright, but I've been informed that if even I'm going to list this as a possible FS thread, I'm obligated to list a price, so I'll say $1050 shipped. I'd much rather get another bass for it in a trade though than simply sell it, so I'm going to hopefully hold out for a trade as long as possible.

I have a large Gator hardshell case that I guess I could ship the bass in, but to be honest the case doesn’t really fit the shape of the bass completely snugly, so I’d probably have to wrap the bass in a layer of bubble wrap within the case. There’s also a small hole in the interior of the case where one of the strap locks that came on the bass when I bought it tore a hole in the inside of the case during its being shipped to me.
All that said, I think I’d rather ship the bass by itself, wrapped inside a cardboard “case” like the guitars come shipped from the factory with that smaller “case” inside a larger shipping box with peanuts surrounding it. I take it you know what I mean. If you’d rather have the Gator case with it though, let me know.

I may just decide to keep this one, folks, but time will tell.

John

It's an NS5CRFM. Czech made. This was the forerunner to the Euro and later Euro LX series of Czech basses.

Since it has the inlays and the Spector "SS" logo it would have to be made in 1999 or 2000. That would also make it 35" scale as this started with all Spector Czech 5 and 6 strings in 1999 along with the added inlays and return to the "SS" logo.

The Euro's started in 2001.
The Euro LX's started in 2004.

Thanks for the info! In harmonizing your information and PJ's then, the bass must have been made in 1999, if my logic serves me correctly.

I've edited the thread title as this model is apparently a Spector NS5CRFM.

Bump.

No interest in a Czech-made Spector 5er with that signature Spector growl?!

I'd love to trade you for your amber or natural finish Spector Euro P/J 4-string! or possibly your Lakland Bob Glaub Skyline or 6-string U.S. Peavey Cirrus. Make me offers! The worst I can say is no!

EDIT: Got a couple of offers already. I'm not interested in anything with EMG HZ pickups or Schecter basses in general.

You're not a 5'er guy, but you want a 6 string? Anyhoo, bump for a beautiful bass.

Basically I've come to terms with the fact that I really don't utilize a low B-string all that much. That being said, I've played 6-strings and absolutely love the possibilities offered by a high C-string. Rather than buy a tenor bass, I figure it'd be nice to have one 6-string that covers all my potential "extra-string needs."

I hope that clears up what might have seemed somewhat confusing or potentially fishy.

Bump.

I'm shocked more people aren't interested in this European Spector 5er.

Bump. I have a potential buyer and am waiting to hear any more last-minute trades?

I'd consider an Elrick, MTD (not the Kingston series), Lakland Bob Glaub, 4-string Spector Euro with the P/J pickup setup, Yahama TRB series 6-stringer, or a U.S. Peavey Cirrus 6. Feel free to offer me anything else you might have though! I don't mind considering offers.
Also, note that in the case of a trade for, say, an Elrick, I'd be willing to put up some cash on my end as well.
