FT: G&L Tribute L2000

Sign in to disble this ad
This is only for trade at the moment.

I bought this L2000 from low2groove less than 2 weeks ago and I have no complaints about it at all. Everything they say about the Tribute series is absolutely true, and it plays like it cost at least 3 times what I paid. Here's the original thread with pictures:

FS/FT G&L L2000 Tribute Sunburst W/ Gig bag

Just to make sure it's out there in this thread, the active electronics are not working in this bass. Passive works great, and from what I've been reading/hearing around the web it's not a huge loss. The EQ is passive, so all electronics are fully functional except the active switch. For additional details see previous thread. I repeat: the active switch is currently a mute switch.

It's an amazing bass, but it turns out I'm just not really a fan of the G&L sound, no matter how much variety you can get from it. It doesn't seem to work for what I like to sound like (for reference, my other basses are an Electra P, a Danelectro, and an Aria semi-hollow all with flats, so I'm definitely on the vintage/fat side of things). The L2000 gets close, but I'd rather see it go to someone who will use it to its full potential.

Also, the gigbag is one of the best I've seen FWIW.

As you can see in the previous thread, I got a killer deal on this thing. I'm sure I could jack the price up and sell it, but then I would feel like I was taking advantage of a good deal from low2groove. For now I'd just like to see if someone out there has something I'd be interested in so we can make a mutually beneficial deal. Here are some ideas:

-MIJ/CIJ Fender (particularly P or Mustang) *If I liked Jazzes I'd probably be keeping the G&L*
-Other Japanese basses from the 70s (ie Matsumoku, Electra, Univox, etc.) Precision copies or otherwise
-I'd LOVE a Japanese Rickenbacker copy
-Something with a Darkstar pickup (Darkstar P would be great)
-Peavey T-40 (maybe?)
-Other quirky or vintage style basses
-Perhaps a Squier Classic Vibe Precision+cash (Prefer a 60 but would consider a 50) for a Darkstar conversion.

I'm fine with some cash going either way for the right deal. I reserve the right to come to my senses after I bring it to band practice.

If you'd be willing in selling outright, I'd be very interested.

Thanks for the interest. I may open it up to sales in a couple of weeks if I can't find a trade offer I like.

Please excuse my bluntness but I have to ask: If you bought it just a few weeks ago from a reputable store and the electronics are dead, why did you not return it? I'm interested, so thanks for an answer.

*edit*
I am sorry. I thought "Low2groove" was a STORE. Turns out it's another TBer. MY bad.

It is also described in the original thread that the active electronics are not working.

^^What he said. I just want to make clear that I was aware of the issue when I bought it and Low2groove was a great guy to deal with .

Wish I'd have seen this earlier. Just let go of a Westone Thunder I way too cheap. I have an Electra P too that's waiting to be revived but I don't think I'll be parting with that one anytime soon. Hey, have you seen my Rosetti that's up for sale here too? Any interest in that? (Seems our tastes run parallel.)

Yeah, our tastes are quite similar. I actually saw your Westone ad this morning and was going to message you because I wasn't sure if it had sold yet. That Rosetti looks really nice, but I'm not sure how much use I would get out of it. Enjoy your Electra; I love mine and it's definitely a keeper. I've actually wondered about throwing a Darkstar in the neck position but I have no idea how that would sound and I don't know if I have the guts. It's already modded (I love the Villex PU that is in it now), but that's a pretty big step .

I may float something else by you when I get home, but I'm traveling right now and will have to take inventory.

I do have a T-40, non toaster, whatever they are called. Natural. Debating whether I want to offer you that... Peavey Foundation too, if that were of interest.

Cool. I had a Foundation for a while, but found it a little too Jazzy for my taste. I'm interested in hearing any offers you (& anyone else) sends my way. I'm going out of town for a while as well, so I'm not going to be able to send it out until the middle of next week unless someone offers me a mind-blowing deal before Friday.

Edit: Evening bump

All PMs replied. I'm going out of town this weekend, but should still be able to get online and respond to offers or questions.

Interesting, thanks for the idea. In a preliminary Google search it appears the the US G&Ls have sockets for the op amps while the Tributes may not, but I haven't opened it up yet. This would be an quick fix if it's easily replaceable. Even if not, the pre amp seems to be the weak link on these, so if someone was going to upgrade anyway this would be a great deal. I'm getting some interesting trade offers, but it is still available for now!
