FT: Lakland USA P5 prototype; Stunning Trans Orange over ash; Bird's eye maple

Sign in to disble this ad
*The* Lakland USA P5 Prototype!!!

I *love* this bass to death, and am only posting it for trade on the off chance someone would be willing to trade for an Nord P5 with an ash body and one piece maple neck.
This is the only 35" scale bass I play anymore, and I'd really rather have a 34" Nord.

Beautifully striped ash body finished in "Marcus" trans orange, quartersawn maple neck with lil bitty vintage fretwire, sick bird's eye f/b, Nord NP5 powerplant. It has a battery box installed from the factory, if you were silly enough to want to mess with the NP5's killin' passive grunt by installing a preamp...
Pup cover, and a brand spankin' new Lakland HSC.

thanks!

Smeagol from Lord of The Rings said it best "Precious......" I personally like the proto-type better than the finished product.

I never laid hands on any of the Skyline P5's that came out later.
The USA necks are much nicer, IMO.

I have played the skyline p5 and it is awesome and the best at its price-point IMHO but this bass is in a whole other league!

bunch of pm's replied;
even one for an ash/rosewood Nord P5. which I passed on

I know this is a really specific and long shot trade, but, I'm really set on the whole ash/maple thing and I've been thru many, many P basses over the years learning this lesson about myself, so, that's what I'm sticking to.

If the Lakland were 34" scale, I wouldn't even have ever posted this, but it is.

Maybe the right Nord ash/maple will come along.
If not, I'm happy to keep on with this bass

What is it about the Ash/Maple that does it for you Chef?

Snappier/punchier/brighter vs warmer/softer/rounder of alder/rosewood.
I've tried ss rounds on alder/rosewood, and for me and what I like, it just doesn't work as well as fresh nickles on ash/maple.

I have two four string P's I've had since 1972; both ash/maple. I've tried many others since then, and always land back at ash/maple.

bump

I bet that bass sounds killer. I saw you had a couple of those Orange Iso cabs. I hate to hijack the thread but whats your take on them? I'm always looking to shrink up my rig and not lose booty and volume.

I had those for the Bass Gear Review. You can read all about it in the online archive
Briefly: they're hefty down low, fair dose of mids, not so many highs.
Impressive for their size, though fairly expensive-ish when compared to "other 112/110" cabs, which is really what they are, more or less...

If you want "a vintage sound," they do that thing quite well.

They're not my personal thing, but, if they meet your goals they're well crafted, and sound nice.

I don't have a ton of P experience but that's exactly how I would describe my Valenti P5. Sometimes I wish it wasn't so aggressive but its easy to dial that out and hard to dial it in if you're missing it.

Yeah: the odds of me getting such a super specific trade are super slim.
Cie la vie, it don't kill me to keep playing this
