Subject pretty much says it all. Loving your CT, but strapped for cash? Looking for a change but can't see yourself playing anything but a CT? I've got the solution for you!!!
I've got a pretty amazing 32" scale 4 string no frills Carl Thompson and I'd love to upgrade it to a Frills. Let me know what you've got. This is a great way to still own a Carl Thompson bass and put some cash in your pocket. The No Frills are the same great intelligent design, just without all the cat's eyes and fancy wood patterns.
Let me know what you've got. I'm pretty open to all sorts of scale lengths, fretted or fretless, 4, 5, 6, and beyond...string count. I'm interested in CTs from all eras too. The cash I'll add on top of the No Frills will depend on what you've got to part with.
Here's a picture of mine that's on the table: |

i feel very lucky to have found the bass that really does it for me (as i know you are also on that quest). i really love the 32" scale too...but this is probably my last shot at a frills, so i figured why not go for it? carl's work is the absolute best out there (leo did a great job with introducing us to bass, but carl fixed it and made it better - imho).
i've noticed that most CT owners can't part with them (and for good reason)...but if you need some cash and have a CT, here's a chance to not have to part with a CT entirely but still make a few bucks.
side note - i've already gotten several inquiries on straight sales and the answer is no...not looking for a straight ahead sale. in the event that a CT frills comes available for direct purchase only, i might consider selling this one to close the deal but at the moment i'm only looking for a Frills CT. that's it.

same design concepts, same electronics and hardware, just less fancy wood artwork.
as for the work on the bass...all necks are always fully hand carved, whether frills or not. the no frills have their bodies cut with a cnc with final carving sanding by hand. the frills are entirely hand carved all the way through (carl chats about this on plenty of his recent youtube vids). many popular so called "hand made" basses are actually done this way anyway, but carl's frills instruments are all fully carved by hand (body, neck, nut, everything but the pickups and hardware). so the no frills' bodies are cnc'ed with final touches by hand (like many others that are believed to be fully carved by hand - it is actually pretty surprising how many people get away with saying handmade when machines are used, but that's another story).
this bass was completed on 8/18/08 so it benefits from a lot of Carl's more modern tweaks to his design. the 3d scroll is my favorite of his body designs too and the passive circuit on the basses in recent years is fantastic. 32" scale 29 frets, if memory serves correctly it weighed just under 6lbs. extremely versatile instrument and dream bass to many (including me). |

...found a CT that I might be able to purchase so was thinking of selling this outright (if it all works out). I'd want to get what I have in it which was just over $3,300. So let's say $3,300 shipped to you.
I reserve the right to pull this outright sale option at any point if the other CT I found doesn't look legit. If you want to buy my bass outright, let me know and I'll make the proper communications to ensure that I can buy the bass I've got my eyes on and if all looks a go, then we'll move forward with the outright sale. |

Now I'm looking for the original deal...my CT No Frills plus cash for your CT frills. I'd love to nab a 32" scale frills...but am open to any scale or string configuration. |

Loved it! Actually protested leaving the shop without it. Didn't work out
Good luck on the deal, even if you are Bat**** crazy for trading it.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: New York | | Bump. Also, I should probably note that if you've got a 5 string CT that you'd be willing to part with, I'd be willing to move my 5 string no frills and cash for that. Here's a couple of choice shots of the 5'er (only 5 string no frills in existence AFAIK).
the other day, I noticed that the 5'er has a cat's eye on one of the body wings. It's mahogany on mahogany so doesn't jump out at ya, but super cool find none-the-less. gotta snap some pix of that too. |

* $4,200 shipped to your door for the 5'er.
less than 1k per string. bass is only 3 months old (stamped 1-29-10), barely been played. |

Only looking to trade a no frills + cash for a frills CT at this time. No straight sale, no other basses willing to trade for (i MIGHT consider a VW signature Monarch Fodera 4 string, but that'd be a maybe and would depend on the bass) | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
