FT Only Tacoma Thunderchief Fretted Neck for Fretless Neck

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a perfect condition Thunderchief (Thanks Al!) that is begging to be a fretless instead of a fretted.

Instead of going to my luther and opting to have him put a new fingerboard on the neck or defretting my existing neck, I thought I'd reach out to the TB community to see if someone wanted to trade straight across their fretless neck for my fretted neck.

My TC neck has worn phosphor bronze strings or Rotosound TruBass 88 nylons for it's life so frets are in excellent condition. If you would like pictures, I can send them or post them over the coming days.

The trade TC neck must be an excellent condition true fretless neck, not a defretted fretless neck - with minimal fingerboard wear. I think that the fretless TCs only came with a rosewood fingerboard, but ebony or maple would be acceptable if someone has already gone through that exercise and wants to go back to a fretted.

I am not interested in selling or trading the entire bass as I am very happy with it - just the neck please.

PM me if interested and you have an offer for me or if you know where I can have a TC fretless neck built for me at a decent price and could match the fretted neck color and dimensions.

Thanks again everyone and Happy Thanksgiving,

John

wishful thinking.

Hey jeffbass,

Saw your posting, been trying to find a fretless neck for my bass for 7 years, not only a fretless but just a new neck. I snapped the head. I tried asking Tacoma before fender brought them, a no, now I am trying fender. I got a reply from one person who gave me a name and number but he will not reply.
Hear is the info. I got from fender.

This what Jeff sent me. Everything after this after this period is Jeff talking.

JEFF>>>>I honestly don’t know how much they would charge. You can talk to them direct though….

Wow, that is a real bummer. I know a couple of folks in Nashville and perhaps can get Thane to reply. Here goes another quest..! If all else fails, I may go the fingerboard replacement route, but will keep this thread open for a bit.

When I bought the bass from Al Berry, I was really torn between a fretless and fretted, but went with the fretted and strung it with Rotosound Nylons and have been very happy. I play a bit of upright so I was thinking the fretless neck would give me bit better consistency when fast in the upper register. Man with those nylons it's really close to my upright and in winter it's a whole lot easier to transport when its snowing and cold out...

Anyway, I'll keep the post alive for a bit and post what I get as a response from Fender...
