Ok guys & gals of TB, I am putting my Ramirez up for trade. I really, really like this bass, but it has a 34" scale, and I can't seem to get used to it, plus I could use a little cash for other endeavors.
Here are the specs:
Ramirez DV5 built by our very own Wilser
Katalox top with sapwood streak
3-piece ribbon mahogany/flame maple body
One piece maple neck
34" scale poly coated maccassar ebony fretboard
23 frets
Bartolini P25CBC Classic Bass pickups
Bartolini HR-4.6 NTMB 918F 18v preamp
Hipshot Ultralite tuners in black
Hipshot "A" style bridge in black w/ 19mm string spacing
Katalox headstock plate
Bubinga transition block
Football plate side mount jack
1.875" nut
Flat fretboard "radius"
Medium depth flat neck profile
~10lbs
This bass started out as a passive straight to the jack bass fretless bass and was then fretted and had an Aguilar OBP-1 preamp installed by Steve Kudela for ivlucas. I traded him my CB Rami for it, and upon receiving the bass, loved the feel and playability, but wasn't too keen on the sound. It was thin and hissy, not my deal. I bought the knobs, preamp, pickups, and battery box from Brian Ristola at Best Bass Gear and sent them and the bass to Mike Lull for the installation. He also installed a new bone nut and shielded the control cavity and the back of the cover. That's how this bass ended up in my hands and in with it's current electronics.
Now the bass is fat, punchy, and growly, and completely dead silent. The bass has a fresh set of DR LowRider Mediums (45-125) on it and has a medium set up. The action on this bass can go as low as you want it, and no string buzz.
I would rate the bass an 8.5/10. there are some dings on the bottom side of the bottom horn that are not through the surface, and I could not get them to photograph, the finish is a little rough in some spots, I believe this was one of Wilser's first builds, there are some fret spots that were cut a little too deep, and the new bone nut is slightly narrower than the original. EDIT: I found a little bit of damage to the poly coating on the fretboard right by the 23rd fret, it does not affect playability at all and cosmetic only.
Some things I would consider, where applicable, maple boards are preferred
Warwick Streamer Stage II
Roscoe SKB-3005
Sadowsky Metro (Standard or Vintage, no Ultra Vintage)
Mike Lull M5 or M5V
Valenti J5 or VJ5
Nordy vJ5
PM or email me to talk.
Amount of cash depends on the instrument and the condition.
We each pay our own shipping. Mine will be bubble wrapped and boxed how Mike Lull sent it to me, shipped and insured for $2100 via UPS Ground.
Cash must come by personal check, USPS money order, or Cashiers check, and payment must clear before shipment.
Thanks for looking.
Sincerely,
Justin Beck
I guess this bass wasn't meant to be with me after all. I guess I am just changing and going for more of a traditional style instrument.
Throw those 5'ver jazzes at me.
