SOLD

The bass is in great shape, I don't think Reb was able to play it much due to his hand issue. Sounds like a great Ric should. I am merely seeing what comes up because I seriously could just keep the Ric for the 'cool' factor. ( I know that is lame but I have always wanted a Ric and love how it plays/feels/sounds). However, I really want a bass that fills a sound I do not have. I am thinking of of a pbass on roids, some interests: a G&L L-1000, Darkstar'd Lakland, EBMM Big Al. Curious to what you have. More interested in a bass + cash. Not really into boutique or high end vintage pieces. If you are interested in an outright sale I will start with 1700 + shipping OBO.

I have some TI Flats coming to put on the Ric too, who knows if the strings will change my mind. I am looking for a great flatwound sound for funk/motown stuff.

Let me know if you have any questions, this bass is truly beautiful.

Good luck. It's a great looking MID 4003.

You might end up liking the flats on there. I know I love flats on mine. I use Rotosounds instead though.

Thanks for the comment. Everyone raves about Rotos on a 4003, both the rounds and the flats. I am hoping the flats are the sound I am looking for because Rics are just such cool instruments.

I've never used the TI flats so I can't comment on them but for bright flats, you might look into D'Addario Chromes. They are nice and bright too.

Re: your quest for a great motown funk tone - I achieved that (IMHO) w/ a MIM Fender Precision Active Deluxe (great vintage look too) w/ Rotosound Steve Harris flats. I like those flats b/c they have a little more oomph to them that the traditional flat. YRMV.

Good luck!
