G&L L2000 E 1981 Hog/Ebony Fretless

Happy New Year!

This piece of bass history just does not get played so up for sale is a rarity. G&L L2000E 1981era mohagany body with an ebony fretless neck and old lawsuit headstock.
The bass is in great used condition. As shown in the pics, there are a whole bunch of random dents and dings in the finish from god knows what. Perhaps the original owner liked to play wearing a giant gold necklace, who knows, but it's mojo!

Otherwise the bass is great, Passive/active electronics and pickups work as they should, the neck has a bit of relief and came to me shimmed, but it's been stable and smooth since I have owned it. Fingerboard is P width and thin front to back like a vintage P, board has light string wear consistent with longtime flat use, truss rod is functional. Tone of this bass is amazing and powerful. Currently strung with TI flats. It is hog and weighs in as such at about 10.5 lbs.Includes a harshell tolex case.

Sorry Sold!!!

I'm searching for a fretted one, and just can't imagine whether I would like the fretless sound. I always thought that for a singing fretless sound an ash body is probably better?

Hog and ebony is a match made in heaven. although if I bought it it would end up fretted. Serious mojo!

"I'm searching for a fretted one, and just can't imagine whether I would like the fretless sound."

-------------

Dave Pomeroy plays an older fretless L-2000. Not a hog I don't think, and not sure about slots, but a pre-83 bass nonetheless. It sounds fabulous. Hope it didn't get burned up in his house fire a couple of years ago.

There are clips of him playing it here and there. He played it on the late 90's Oteil Live @ Bass Day in NY video (sponsored by BP mag).

bump from a G&L fanboy. Don't know what it is about the G&L L series but I think they are some of the best looking instruments on the market. Just the right mixture of modern and old school.

My G&L fretless has turned into my #1 bass. The ebony they used is very hard and stands up to the stainless round wounds I use (yes there is some wear, but it is minimal and can be worn down with a sanding block every year or so)

Awesome bass

Interested

I don't know if you got my message or not, but would you be willing to trade a 81 L-1000?

Is the nut width 1 5/8" or 1 3/4" ? That'd really make a difference for me...
