Exclamation G&L SB-1 THREE TONE SUNBURST 1991 WITH A "LAWSUIT" HEADSTOCK!!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I am selling a nice G&L SB-1 in three tone sunburst with a Clear Gloss Neck and Maple Fretboard. The gloss finish on the neck has aged nicely, the photos don't do it justice!! It has the "lawsuit" headstock, which is the Fender type, before CBS (Post Leo Fender) sued G&L for the design. They felt they were too Fender-Like. G&L then place the trademark "horn" on the headstocks after this litigation took place. The basses with this headstock are getting harder to find, as they were only made for a short time!!

I am not the original owner of this SB-1, but it was well cared for...........Played, but not abused. It has minor signs of wear, but minimal for the age of the guitar. The bass is all original and was manufactured in 1991 (see photos). As the G&L faithful know the MFD (Magnetic Field Design) Pickups are hard to beat for sustain and output!! It was recently professionally set-up and re-strung with Rotosound Monel Flats..........Very nice action!!

This SB-1 has the black "crinkle" coat metal pickguard and bridge, which is period correct for it's era. The bass will come with the G&L case in the photos. I have not really played the bass since I got it, so it's time for it to get a good home!!

The First USPS Money Order for $785.00 gets this G&L SB-1............Includes packing, insurance, and shipping in the lower 48 states (USA)!!!!

Free bump for a killer bass and a nugget of info. AFAIK the lawsuit is an internet rumor. The original L series had Fender looking headstocks that were changed to the current pointy style in 1983. The SB series basses had a similar but not the same Fenderish head shape throughout the 80s until BBE took over.

Sorry for the brief highjack - but it's my recollection that the "lawsuit" issue was more from Leo putting his name, particularly the Fender part, on the headstock. Of course, Fender's point was that they owned the name Fender, etc.

BTW - great looking and playing bass. I have a well worn red one, but love the sunburst too.

1 5/8 or 1 11/16? I know it's only a 1/16, but that 1 11/16 neck width from G&L is magic.
