G&L SB-2 1984

Sign in to disble this ad
I am reluctantly selling my 1984 G&L SB-2 with OHSC for $750 + shipping. It is in great shape, everything works and it's 100% original. A few scratches, mild fret wear, and some light tarnishing on the chrome are the only issues to report. The case is also in pretty good shape. Weighs about 9.5 on the bath scale.

The controls are volume, tone and a three way pickup selector. The MFD single coil pickups are pretty hot and sound clear and crisp. This bass is one of the most underrated Leo Fender designs IMO.

Has the headstock been shaved down? I thought 84s had the newer headstock?

No the SB series had these headstocks through the 80s into the 90s AFAIK. They might have changed to pointy headstocks when BBE took over the company.

I have an 87 SB-1 with the pre law suit headstock. I also have an 83 L-1000 with the pointy headstock. Both are original. I believe it is correct that the SB-1 had the pre-LS Headstock into the 90s. L-1000s changet to pointy in 83. If "Chef" sees this he knows the models and dates of change to pointy.

BTW that's a killer price for that bass, they are selling for nearly 1K from what I have seen. I have 2 and they play and sound awesome, and are extremely well made and have sweet necks. I would recommend buying this ASAP if you are at all interested. If I didn't have 2 already, it would be gone.

Here's a quote from GG from another NG that answers the pointy headstock question.

"Headstock with tit shows up by May 1983 on basses, except the SB series which remained titless until the BBE takeover (1992)".

I bought one of these new in 85, and actually wound up playing it more than my 82 L-2000E. Great basses

They are a dream to record with, sparkling tone and deep. Great deal, sorry you have to let her go.
