GIBSON 1985 Explorer Bass - 32" Scale, Copper Metallic Rock Machine

SOLD!!

This here is a pretty rare beast - 1985 Gibson Explorer Bass. They were only produced for a few years in the mid 80's. I can't find a record of Gibson making a copper metallic type color but when I did a Google search, they did have burgundy mist, a color that apparently has a tendency to fade to a coppery color.

Anyway, it's a no-holds barred rawker. It's the only Gibson bass I've ever liked - not because I dig the body shape but because the neck is sweet, it's short scale AND the tone is friggin massive.

When I got the bass, it had mismatched knobs, a bum pot and two plastic caps covering the extra holes - previous owner apparently had put an active preamp and some switches in it (had a battery clip inside). The plastic caps were loose and kept falling out so I put them away for safekeeping and promptly lost them. Some dummy switches (or kill switches) would fill those holes nicely or you could always reinstall a preamp. The Gibson pickups are buckers but are not splittable (2-wire). The stock controls were V/V/T. Now it's V/V/T w/3-way switch. The knobs are new Allparts mini knobs. Previously had a D-Tuner on it as well (don't have that).

Bass is in good shape, just some finish nicks on the body edges and on the headstock. No cracks, dents or other really big uglies. Frets are in great shape with just light string wear and the neck is very straight.

SELLING FOR $850 shipped in the US. No case (Gibson cases are impossible to find but Epiphone makes one that you can order for $89 through GC). International shipping is no problem, PM me for a quote.

Are the pup's the same as a T-bird? How would you describe the sound compared to a 'Bird??

I'm afraid I've never played a T-bird before, but I'm assuming they'd be similar in tone.

99% sure it's mahogany. Weight is 10.8 lbs. Just to let you know, the true color is closest in the third picture (the closeup of the bridge/controls).
