Godin Acoustibass fretless for sale

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought this bass in the late '80s or early '90s when I was looking for an upright-like sound from a bass guitar. It was my main gigging bass for quite a number of years, but I've taken up really playing upright, so the Godin hasn't been seeing enough love. I'm getting ready to move, so my loss can be your gain!

This is the original style with the LR Baggs preamp and the harp-like tines inside the body that are meant to mimic the sound of an upright bass. It's got some wear and tear, including some belt rash on the back and some minor dings on the peghead, but is in good shape overall and plays and sounds great. Comes with the original hard shell case. Currently strung with D'addario Half-rounds.

I think the only recording I have of this bass is one tune from an album I did in '93 with the Washington DC jump blues outfit Sasparilla - I've put that up here.

$450 plus packing and shipping (or local pickup in Seattle).

Nice looking Godin.

How's the volume when it's not plugged in?

It's plenty audible for solo practice kinds of purposes, but probably not loud enough to play with a group.

It has been a very long time since I have posted in the classifieds.

Black, fretless versions are fairly hard to come by for starters. In terms of playability, the full length thumb rest is soooo nice. Find your spot for the right tone and off you go.

I love these basses. Not gonna buy this one. Just want to add my $.02 on a well priced great bass.

FWIW....I'd bump that price up. Those are great rare basses.

Good luck.

I've had one of these since '94. These are utterly fantastic basses. Such a great, woody sound that is clear and articulate too, with great upright-like growl. The EQ is really powerful - the bass slider packs a big wallop. The thumbrest (can't believe they ever got rid of those!) makes it so comfortable to play.
