This is a rare Guild Burnside Crossbow bass w/ officially licensed Steinberger bridge. I bought this as a project, but just have too much on my plate right now.
The good:
- I had it strung up and it plays great! The action is low and the frets are good (some wear, but not much).
- The neck is in great condition with only a few marks.
- It has cool boomerang inlays on the fretboard.
- It has a zero fret.
- It's neck-thru.
- All the bridge pieces and other hardware are there and in good condition. All the hex-head screws, saddles, and string claws are there. And with the exception of some screw heads and pole pieces, the hardware is rust-free.
The bad:
- The lower 'rear' horn has a chunk missing from it. There are numerous other chips and dents on the body.
- There are cracks in the finish on what is now the jack. I don't know if it is in the wood.
- The pot is scratchy.
- The electronics, while I believe them to be original, have been modified. The jack was moved to the top and a pot was removed.
- I plugged it in and tried a new battery in it, and all I got was a hum. I could not get any sound to come out of either pickup. It's most likely a wiring issue. The red LED battery indicator light works.
- The hook to hang the bass on the head piece is missing.
- The p/up poles are a bit rusty. (Don't mind the missing p/ups screws. I replaced those w/ new ones.)
- It is missing the black plastic cover over the battery compartment.
- EDIT: Takes double-ball strings. (Some may look at that as a bad thing simply because they're not as readily available as regular strings.)
I was going to strip it down to bare wood, make a clean cut where the missing wood is, add a new piece, and reshape it. I was then going to put some sort of opaque finish on it, maybe replace the PJ p/ups w/ active EMGs, and make this a rockin ripping bass again. But I don't have time for all this!
So, I'm asking $200 plus S&H worldwide. If I can't get that amount for this rare headless bird, I will save it for when I do have time to refinish it, and then ask closer to $450 for a finished rocking bass! So if you have a little wood working skill (not much needed) and some time, this could be an amazing axe!
This first pic is not my bass. It is to show what the lower 'rear' horn should look like!:
