Hanewinckel 5 String Fretless w/fretlines

Sign in to disble this ad
Hanewinckel 5 string Fretless (with fretlines) comes with the case and strap as shown in the last picture. This bass is truly fretless, however it has the fret "lines"......I removed the strings to accentuate the fret lines for the photo.....yes, the strings come with the bass, too! ;-) Bass is in VG condition and has some slight wear on the fretboard (but, again, it *is* fretless!!)

This bass cost $2,600 NEW!

Made by Custom Luthier Pete Hanewinckel in Northern California. This is the Artist Bolt-on model made in roughly 2000. I purchased it second hand back in 2002.

The bass has a flamed Walnut top, and on the top of the headstock. The neck is a sandwich of Maple and Purple Heart. Checkout the Hanewinkel website for information, pics, prices, and to look at Pete's FINE craftsmanship!

$1,350 shipped and insured, CONUS.

Put some strings on that baby - it'll catch cold!

What's the string spacing?

BUMP

from a Hanewinckel alum. Used to have 2 6ers (fretted and fretless). These basses play like buttah. I only sold them because they each had one too many strings.

If I hadn't already made a couple recent purchases, this would be on its way to Detroit.

Peace,

James

From checking the Hane site...looks like string-spacing is about 17.5mm at the bridge (11/16").

Will string spacing adjust out to 18 or 19? Is there a passive/active switch?

Doesnt look like adjustable string spacing to me... I believe on mine the 2 switches were "active/passive" and "mid contour." I also remember how I thought it was one of the sweetest sounding basses ever! Ill bet they make a killer fretless... This one appears to be one of the earlier models with 9v electronics (exactly like mine). It sounded very modern when I wanted to, but it was very smooth and "sophisticated." The newer ones seem to have a little more top end sparkle. One of the things I loved about mine was no matter how high up I played it (on the C string even) it always sounded like the same bass. It was very balanced and piano-like. I am not affiliated with this seller at all, but I am sure he will answer your questions when he can

EDIT: This one is almost tempting me to spend my bass funds, and I dont even think I want a fretless as my only bass!

Wow! So many questions!!! I'll try to answer:

The fretboard material *seems* to be Pao Ferro. The nut width is 1 13/16". I don't know the scale length.

The electronics are the stock Bartolinis. Vol, PUP selector knob, Treb, Mid, Bass. The one switch is passive/active. The other switch is 3 position Mid freq selector.

Can you measure the scale length? (Nut to twelfth fret * 2)

People, you DO NOT want to sleep on Hanewinckel. These basses are all that. If I hadn't just bought a Devon I would've been all over this one.

Price Drop to $1225, CONUS. If you are local and we do a cash deal, $1150.

This is really as low as I can go. If I don't get this price, I'm just going to keep the bass. Seriously, this is rock bottom for me.
