Hoyt 5-string fretless zebrawood

I love Karl Hoyt's work. Including this 5-string, I own three of his creations and have a new acoustic electric Hoyt on the way. Unfortunately, money is tight around here and I need to sell the 5-string to pay for the new bass on its way. Since, I also have a 6-string fretless, the 5-string fretless seemed to be the logic choice to sell.

This 5-string fretless is absolutely beautiful. The body is solid zebra wood and the look is complete with a matching headstock, truss rod cover and cavity cover.

The pickups are Nordstrand jazz pickups with passive electronics. The cavity is large enough to a add a preamp if you like, but honestly, this instrument doesn't need it. The sound is clear and strong.

Other specs:

- 34" scale length
- 1.75" neck width at the nut.
- Schaller straplock buttons
- weight of the bass is 8.5 lbs.

Take a look at the pictures, I can email higher resolution versions of these pictures since the TalkBass system restricts image size. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

This is a handmade custom instrument from a very reputable luthier. I'm asking $1100 shipped within the US. The bass will be shipped in a gig bag.

There is some wiggle room in the price. So, please feel free to make an offer.

Man, this looks beautiful, and just what I was looking for. Could you please describe the tone? Is it more Jaco or more upright, or both? What is the fingerboard made of?

Thanks for the additional info.

It is fairly flexible depending on your playing style. It is not difficult to get a good amount of "mwah" out of the bass. If you give me some examples of what you'd like to hear, I can try to get a recording of the bass. I'll apologize right now my lack of chops though.
