This is a massive bass sale - at least for me! Left hand tendonitis is forcing the sale of all my electric basses. Please, there’ll not be any pity parties here because the good news is that playing upright only hurts a little bit in thumb position, but the Doc says that my electric days are over and with a little rehab, I should be back to fully playing upright by summer. And no, bass playing isn’t what caused my tendonitis - too much dirt biking did and a pretty hairy crash in Moab last year finally took it over the top. The doc also says that I need to take it easy with the dirt bikes - so my trip to ride ~650 miles of the Baja 1000 is out for this March too.
Anyway, all prices do not include shipping and this is a PayPal sale only. Since I'm moving fully to acoustic upright bass and two NS Design Basses now, I guess the only trade that I would consider is all of these for a NS Design EU6 - as I already have a CR4M and an acoustic upright.
First up is a Red Fender Highway One Precision for $550. The neck is a vintage rosewood Fender Japanese neck on a US made Highway One body with the BadAss III bridge, I installed a Varitone control for the tone control - just so I could get some consistency when recording and a Tortise Shell (faux of course) pickguard. This bass is very lightly used and pretty much doesn't have a mark on it. The bass is strung with Labella flat heavies (the Jamerson set) and it gets that Motown vibe going quickly. Though I don't have a case for it, I could probably round up a hard case for ~$60 bucks at Music Go Round or at Guitar Center.
Second up for sale is a fully stock Ernie Ball Music Man/Musicman Stingray HH in cream for $1150. All original, used a bit but again not a ding that I saw when inspecting for pictures. It comes with the standard EB hard case. The bass is a dream to play and it sounds awesome! I recently put new strings on it - DR Sunbeams (Marcus Miller) and the sound pops. You know the sound - just better with the double humbucker. Many ask whether I can get the single humbucker sound out of the bass - and I just show them that I can. Also, no the front humbucker doesn’t get in the way for slap - at least not for me. A very passable Fender Precision sound, a great Fender Jazz sound, SRMM, a pretty good EBO sound too. This is definitely not a single sound bass!
Third is my personal Franken Fender P/J fretless in clear over Ash priced at $550. This bass has a Dimarzio Model J pickup in the rear and a Dimarzio Split P in front. I purchased a pickup selector and varitone for the bass, though the wiring needs to be redone as the volume control doesn’t roll all of the volume off in different pick up settings. Pickup switching combinations are P only, P/J in parallel, J only, P/J in series (for that thick EB Music Man Stingray sound), a thin out of phase sound that works great with a distortion pedal and finally there is a bypass switch that eliminates the varitone tone control but keeps the pickup switching in place. This is a pretty cool setup with complete versatility. Personally, I always have it hooked up to a Sonic Research tuner and muted it that way, because the pick up switching combinations are well worth the lack of volume control. However, I will include a spare black pickguard and original controls with the sale, so with a quick soldering iron, you can have the bass back to stock in about ten minutes. This fretless has an All Parts Ebonal fretless fingerboard with a maple neck and a black pick guard. Of all the basses I own, this one ranks the absolute highest. The bass is strung with Labella flat heavies (the Jamerson set). Though I don't have a case for it, I could probably round up a hard case for ~$60 bucks at Music Go Round.
Last up for sale is a Squier (Ultra Jazz I think) that has been converted to a 6 string and priced at $475 with a case. I purchased the bass almost exactly the way that you see it and absolutely love playing it and the sounds that I can get out of it. If I wasn’t intent on purchasing a NSD EU6, I’d probably keep it. I purchased it with the peghead decal and added the laser etched neck plate to continue the Vargas Girl theme. I started out playing bass on a six string Carvin way too many years ago. While I love the Carvin neck heel for a neck through, this bass keeps the mojo moving in a Fender sort of way that Carvin can’t touch. When I ran across this bass a few years ago, I fell for it head over heels. It is just a great sounding and great playing bass. The Squier 6 also comes with a hard case - standard Guitar Center fare type in near new condition.
So there you go - four basses up for sale. Each bas has its own character and vibe and each will do you fine on a road gig or in your basement jamming at your house. All are in exemplary condition and ready to gig the day you receive them.
I am also an xBay seller with over 200 bass sales. It used to be my intent to buy one of every bass - I just wanted to play them all - but not own or keep them all of course. These four basses sort of represent my tastes and what I’ve come to love about the low end sound.
Finally, all of the basses are in my home in Colorado. Local sales are always appreciated and of course shipping pricess would not apply...
Thanks for looking and enjoy!

Speaking of which, what *is* the string spacing at the bridge?
Thanks! |

The bridge is a custom 6 string bridge and a new nut has been cut for the 6 strings.
The pickups are a "bar" style pickup that is stock in the Squier, so the pockets have not been altered.
String spacing is 15mm at the bridge. Because the Squier has full width "P" spacing at the bridge when it is a 5 string, the spacing is still pretty wide as a 6.
Make sense?

Well the net-net is that the Moses neck never got mounted as the maple-rosewood has stayed solid.
Should anyone be interested in the Highway One with the Moses Neck, both are for sale together or seperately. Together the price is $800 for the bass with the maple-rosewood neck and the Moses Graphite "No-Dot-Inlay on the front of the neck" neck or $300 for the Moses Neck alone. Pictures are attached below should you be interested...
Enjoy!

For those that are interested in the P/J, yes it does play very similarly to a Tony Franklin P/J, just a roller click switch for all of the pick up settings, it is not a lever like on the actual Fender Tony Franklin.
The good news is that with my setup you have more than P only, P/J, J only, you also have a series setting that is similar to a EBMM Stingray fretless tone and a thin out of phase sound that works great with a phaser or a distortion pedal - Oh and it does have a narrower Jazz width neck instead of a Precision neck for those of you that have asked about that too.
Thanks again for looking and all of the PM's around the sale!
John

Cut a new nut and added a 6-string bridge along with a new set of hipshot ultralite tuners. Nut is 2.008" but don't recall the spacing at the bridge. Rest of the bass was stock when I sold it. |

Thank you for chiming in!
Other than the neck plate, the bass has only been played since you sold it to me. I kept everything but added the laser etched neck plate to continue the theme that you started. |
