Hey there-
So-Yes they do have some Willis details-I actually own a Willis signature model myself (not a black one-but the natural swamp ash version- handmade Japanese model etc)
They have wider spacing to start-18 mm....Also the pre amp is of a higher quality IMHO..Its a Nordy to my specs on the Redwood fretless...Very cool-The mid control is excellent for dialling in more or less growl..Finish and fit is very good-The redwood is beautiful-the guys at the Custom Shop did a killer job, but I am changing direction bass wise somewhat, so really cant justify keeping all these..
You can hear both these on the CPT Kirk cd (avail. on my website,
Rufus Philpot - Bass Player and hear a track "Drop the Chalupa" which features this...Click on the audio tab..
Re:2009 Baked Potato show...
Thanks for the compliment on the tune!-Actually i think we played it before somewhere with kirk-but NOT Mitch...And that was a great night-Kirk and Mitch were on fire...Scott was initially meant to play-in fact we are scheduled to play on 28th of this month too..We DID play it twice!
I cant recall what bass I used that night...-maybe I used one of these fretlesses , but not a black Willis (see above)....But again, glad it came across!
The Aguilar is superb, but def. works better with certain axes-The Willis style bass(es) sond GREAT with it..However, there are a couple of Youtube clips posted recently with a Fender style axe that sound pretty good (me with Mitch forman Qt..)
I do think for the $-these basses are pretty damn cool compared to a stock Willis model-the Redwood is the more versatile and closer to the Willis-and fo rthe money you are getting a truly one of a kind, custom built axe...Hell, I will even throw in some new decent strings (La Bella nickels)
Cheers
Rufus
