Ibanez Soundgear 6 string (barts/aguilar/hipshot)

I bought this bass last year to play while my new Ristola 6 was being built. That bass is with me now so it's time to let this one go. It started it's life as a pretty sad SR506 and is now a heavily modified machine. All of the hardware is new as well as the pickups and electronics. The bass also got a full setup, including a reseating and cleaning of the frets as well as a fret leveling and it was fully shielded. Here's the rundown of the specs:

34" scale
16.5mm spacing at the bridge
2 1/16" nut width
maple neck
rosewood fingerboard
I don't know the body wood...
Bartolini CB dual coils (EMG shape)
Aguilar OBP-3 preamp
Hipshot ultralight tuners
Hipshot A Bridge
Dunlop inlaid straplocks
full shielding in the control cavity
9lbs 11oz

Ok, now all of the imperfections for full disclosure. They were all there when I got the bass. None of these effect the playability in any way but here you go. There's a missing screw for the control cavity cover. I don't have one that will fit but that's an easy fix for someone. There isn't a truss rod cover. There's an area slightly larger than a quarter on the top of the body where the green/blue coloring is faded. There's a thin crack that looks like it was created by someone tightening the B string tuner screw too tight at the back of the headstock. It's been professionally fixed/filled with heavy duty glue. It shouldn't ever pose a problem. There was a small spot of the fingerboard where it looks like someone dropped the bass onto something and nicked it. It's at the 11th fret on the edge of the treble side. That was filled with what looks like glue as well....I actually had forgotten about it since it was fixed. It's not something that you'd ever notice while playing the bass and it's something that you have to look for now.

So basically this bass has gotten a complete face lift. This is an amazing bass for someone that wants a great sounding/playing 6 string without spending a lot of dough.

The bass does not have a case but it will be shipped with great care.

$850 shipped. No trades. Thanks.

Indeed it did! I sold the ACG pre out of the bass, someone bought the ramp and I got some knobs for it.

Any idea where I could get a new truss rod cover and a black thing to cover up the spot under the neck?

When I sell my fender I will buy this. Unless I see an egyptian smoke Bongo 5 HS for similar pricing.

Also, I do believe the SR506 necks are wenge/bubinga 5 piece, and the bodies are brown mahogany.

I'm not sure what you meant about a black thing under the neck....pickguard? Either way you'd be best to contact Ibanez for those questions. As for the woods, you're thinking of the newer versions. This is older and has a maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard. The body isn't mahogany either.

I played the exact same model on stage for about 10 years. To the best of my recollection the FB is wenge on a 3 piece maple neck. I believe the body's ash.

Nice job face-lifting. Great quality upgrades....just did an almost identical project on my Mr Potato fretless 6.

I was referring to the little dip above the neck pup under the fingerboard. I guess I could just put black paint on it.

Going to ask my dad to buy a supporting membership today after the company leaves!

Do you mean at the end of the fingerboard? If so, that's just the way the design is, they curved the end of the board just for the look.

Between the neck pup and the curve of the fingerboard. I would paint it black for cosmetics.

Buying a supporting membership in a few and will try to sell off my Jazz.

How long have you been selling this? I'm hoping I can get the funds before this sells!

Im interested, but don't know how my dad will react to me buying another bass...

He's a guitarist, so he SHOULD understand, but, then again, he only plays one amount: 6 strings.

And he didn't get his first amp until he was 42.

But he DOES have four guitars...

Ok...thanks to Rick for coming by today. He was in the area and stopped in with a scale. The bass weighs 9lbs 11oz. He had to weigh it 3 times because it seems much lighter than that....a very well designed bass.

I went and checked out (and weighed ) this bass today; it is a *very* special instrument. Plays great all over the neck, great tone, and the low B is perfect. I played Andy's first Ristola which was just exceptional. This one gave me a similar buzz. Really!

I've played SR506s off the wall at GC; this bass is far beyond that. Maybe the mods, maybe just a good one, I dunno. Well worth the $$$ imo

/rick
