SOLD
I bought this from Rufus Philpot (Planet X, Virgil Donati, Studio guy) who is an Ibanez endorsee and clinician. Check out his playing at www.rufusbass.com.
It's a custom, one-off bass made in the Los Angeles, USA Custom Shop on 03/20/06. Took forever to build and is one of the most expensive basses they've ever built (over $4K if you wanted to buy it). Specs: Body: Alder Back, Chestnut Top Neck: Maple Bolt-on w/Pau Ferro Fingerboard, 24 vintage style frets Pickups: Nordstrand Big Splits Preamp/EQ: Aguilar 18V Controls: Volume, Blend, Bass, Mid, PASSIVE Tone Control, passive/active switch, coil split switch Tuners: Black Gary Willis Tri-Wing Tuners Bridge: Black Hipshot A-Style (currently set for 18mm spacing) Scale: 34" (very tight low B!) Weight: 8.4 lbs
The neck plays like butter and the bass sounds like a sweet Jazz bass with more available tonal options (put it on passive and roll off the tone control, close your eyes and it sounds like a Fender). Build quality is on par with ANY boutique manufacturer (and I've owned almost everything from a Elrick, Fodera, Roscoe, etc). The clear Perspex ramp you see in the pic is removable; I took it off and it's just held on by double stick tape (didn't mar the bass at all). This bass is in mint condition; no noticeable wear anywhere. I really dig this bass, but G.A.S.ing for some more stuff. Selling it for $1500 + shipping. I'll include a nicely padded gig bag or you can have a semi-hardshell case for $25 more. International shipping is no problem, PM me for a quote. PayPal preferred. Thanks!

I wanted to jump on this one when Rufus was selling it.

This bass has small vintage style frets, so you can almost cop a fretless tone (not the mwah, but just very smooth slides, ala Leland Sklar). Quote:
Originally Posted by jazzfish any idea how much playtime it's had? did rufus use this as his main bass ever? | Mark answered this for you, but even though this was Rufus' main bass for a while, it's in mint condition; you wouldn't even be able to tell it was gigged. Quote:
