I was using this bass while waiting for mine R Bass Jazz 5 string. I need some cash now so this one has to go.
This bass is absolutely beautiful- has that thick, punchy tone to die for and an amazing jaco growl. The pickups have that high output so I don't think you'll have to worry about adding an onboard preamp.
