JR Beck 4-string Jazz bass in Sunburst with Rosewood fingerboard (maple neck). Wilkinson pickups installed and wired in series (I can put them back in parallel if you'd like....series is fatter....more of a P bass tone). Upgraded, chrome bridge. Chrome neck pickup cover and BWB custom pickguard. Plays great and sounds great. 8 out of 10 shape (screws from thumbrest still in body). I know the story on these basses & have two 6 strings (fretted & fretless) myself. A man here in town went into business with a large investor (I won't name him) & they set up an operation in both Korea & China to produce quality instruments for sale in the USA. They produced both guitars & basses under the J.R. Beck name. They made copies of famous guitars-Strats, LPs, Telecasters, Gibson 335s & 175s & basses of their own design. They used the CNC method & then finished everything by hand with ,for the most part, good hardware & active pups & preamps. After they had a warehouse full of these instuments here in Austin, the big investor dropped out for some reason. The original guy ended up with all the stuff & nowhere to sell it. So he started advertising on craigslist & by word of mouth that he was selling this stuff cheap. I went over to his house & was totally blown away by the quality vs price of the stuff. I bought 2 basses & a lot of my musician friends & bandmates are playing J.R. Beck guitars & basses. Both my basses are solid bubinga with maple/rosewood necks, active electronics & brass nuts. They are heavy--12lbs. The sound is very usable & variable as is & the pups are standard sizes & therefore easy to modify. He has 4-5-6 string basses fretted & fretless. I paid $200-250 each for mine....killer deal. Guitars are similar prices & he veen has a buy one get one free deal last I heard. PM me for his # if you want.
