Jerry Jones Shorthorn Short scale 30"

Sign in to disble this ad
I have only had this bass a very short time but I have another short scale that gets all the attention and I need to make room so, I give you the shorthorn:

If you are not hip to these, they are an attempt to make a decent danelectro bass; better/quieter pickups, better neck, better bridge, etc...

It has the classic hollow, thunky sound that works well for a lot of styles.

This one has a volume and a PU selector knob
Neck/series/parrelel/bridge - quite a bit of tonal options
The series reminds me of OMG mode on my L1K, very dubby.

The only mark on this is a small surface scratch on the top near the bottom horn.

Comes in a nice, fake aligator, C&C hardcase.

$600 including shipping, no trades please. PM offers

Here is the original thread with better pics:

I was PM'd for some sound files, so I thought I would post them for anyone interested. It definetly has more of a hollow sound than you might think from the files.

JJ1 starts from the neck pickup and goes thru the tones (4) to the bridge pickup. Then I play the same bass line, but fingerpick near the neck and switch back thru the pickup selector and end back at the neck pickup. This was an attempt to show the pickup options but also how responsive the JJ is to picking dynamics. It performs very well with a pick or thumbed muting as well.

JJ2 is an attempt to show that the intonation is decent, even if my chords are not perfect.

First I am playing outside chords up the neck, then inside chords up the neck.

I left some non playing silence with the bass plugged in on the end of one of the files so you can hear the background noise in single coil mode.

All clips are the bass plugged in directly to my Tascam US 122 then into wavelab where the only thing I did was normalize the files to get the levels the same. Nothing else was done to the files. No EQ, preamps or anything.
