I need to move my main bass in order to buy one I really want locally. I mostly keep the Smith at home as most of my gigs are out of town and I usually just want to take my "beater" warwick. I am the second owner and it does show slight discoloring in a spot in front of the neck pickup. I don't think I've EVER seen a Neckthrough, dot inlay Smith goes this low on the forums, $2100 SHIPPED for the next 12 hours. PM me w/ questions or inquiries.

| | | | I've got a Smith 6 bolt on. A CR 6G MW. I believe the G is for Graphite reinforced neck. But, my bass is an MW, and the top is Maple, the core is Walnut, but the MW, accordin to Ken Smith means Bolt-on. Heh, so not 100% sure. But, my bass has the graphite reinforced neck, and is a "G". So I'm pretty sure.

I do always get confused what the G mean, I thought at one point had to do with the hardware being gold or something instead of graphite rods (don't they all have graphite rods these days?).
Either way, lots of nice options on this Smiths, this one looks real nice as well. |

| | | | I agree. This one is nice, but the guy in such a hurry it does make me wonder... But, I will say NOT all Smiths have graphite. For a long time it was an option to have them, not standard on the various bolt-on series. Now, my bass is a '95. It does have gold hardware, maybe you are right. I also have a 5 piece neck (which I NEVer see on CRs anymore) and three piece body wings. A quilt maple center block wit Morado stringers on outside of block. Back in the day, CR didn't even mean Chuck Rainey, necessarily, it only distinguised between the neck thru models and the bolt on models. I remember lookin at these basses at NAMM an wantin one, so had catalog upon catalog doin reasearch as I happened to work at a Smith dealer. A lot has changed over the years, all the call numbers and letters can get confusin cuz they don't SEEM to follow common sense answers. Knowin the serial # would help. I can tell ya this, I've never seen another Smith like mine exactly. I'm sure they exist, but mine has options I don't see often on BT bodied, big headstock CRs. And, when I got mine, I paid $900 used. Heh. Things certainly have changed. This a nice bass, good luck wit the purchase. Ken Smith's website has a TON of info, and the forum there filled with experts on stuff like this. If you find out for sure about the "G", let me know.

| | Registered User | | | | | Those who I PM'ed w/ already know, but I'm interested in 3 basses right now, one of them being a Fodera that a gentleman a few hours away is selling and has an buyer ready overseas, but he would much rather sell locally, but he needs the funds for next week for a gift for his wife or girlfriend... I don't remember. ANYWAY, I had a chance to try it out for a bit and I wasn't too crazy about it, or at least not enough to add a couple of grand to whatever I could get for the Smith, although it WAS a steal for a Fodera. The other basses are a Benavente and a Nicer Smith. I really just wanted to have the funds to able to decide on which of the three to take. The gentleman is supposed to meet me half way at a small music shop early this afternoon for a setup to my liking and a different rig to play through. After sleeping on it I think it's really just between the Fodera and another Smith. If it doesn't sell in a couple of hours, I might have it up for the weekend at a different price or maybe have it to trade + cash for an Elite maple Top w/ series/parallel and high gloss finish. So if it doesn't move this afternoon, I won't be devasted frankly and it will make the decision on the bass for me. Sorry about going on and on. For those interested, check out my feedback and check out these new pics I'm putting up. I didn't mean for this to sound like a shady post, I thought it would be exciting. |

| | | | I apologize. I did NOT mean to imply shady. Just strange that someone would want to sell a bass this nice this quickly. I love Smith basses. I couldn't let go of mine, I don't believe. So is strange, but not shady. I do wish had funds for this, as my six can be taxin playin it for 3 1/2 to 4 hours, 4 nights a week. BIG time luck wit sale, man. I hope you get what ya want. And no offense meant. I would like to know what the top is. It's nice.
